After Carter was acclaimed
"Fighter of the Year," Carter demanded a shot at Giardello, the
newly crowned middleweight champ. One year later in front of 6,000 boxing
fans in Philadelphia, he did fight Giardello, in a 15-round championship
fight but lost to a decision....Cater told news sources, "I think it
was mine." Carter believed he won nine of the rounds, who believed he
had won nine rounds."
Who would have thought that just a couple of
years later from the fight between him and Giardello, Hurricane
Carter, would be arrested for murder!
In the year 2000, a movie was made about him called the
"Hurricane." On March 1, 2000, the movie was one of
a select choice of movies nominated for the Oscar. At the Oscar's,
there were picketers
holding protest signs outside the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts
and Sciences screening of "The Hurricane" protesting the film's
distorted depiction of the murder case against Carter. As one
news source reported, "The picketers represented the families of the
Lafayette Grill murder victims and of the late Lt. Vincent DeSimone, the
chief investigator of the 1966 Paterson, N.J. murders for which Carter was
twice convicted. The families are in New Jersey and were not able to
personally attend the protests." Many websites and news online
sources reported all of the untruths that were told in the movie, versus
Carter's MANY discrepancies of what he claimed, and reported throughout
