The Square Ring
by Howie Reed
August 8, 2003
Know your 3K’s. Last week I wrote, “after Fahsung 3K
Battery won his manager said “Yatta Yatta Yatta”.
Enough already. Now I know there is more than one
3K’s. How? E-mail. “Dear lovely press”. Well he had me right there. I have
to admit that I’ve been called a
lot of things but never “lovely press”. Gotta like it.
Editors take note. “As a matter of fact invincible
Yodsanan 3K Battery, WBA champion holder of Super
featherweight, nowadays, he seems to be like the
forgettable boxer from people. It is very pity to
perceive that he is the biggest boxer in Thailand; WBA
champion who now has no chance to fight with no. 1
boxer like Joel Cassamayor or fight with Acelies
Frietas (WBA/WBO champion holder).” OK. Here’s the
scope.
Casamayor fights on October 4 in Las Vegas against
Diego Corrales as the semi main to Holyfield-Toney.
Senior Frietas (33-0) gets in the ring on Sunday
morning next when he defends his titles against Jorge
Barrios (39-1-1).
In all fairness to both the fighters named, they won’t
fight Yodsanan 3K cause he wants the fight in
Thailand. Like Jesse James, fighters go where the
money is. Another e-mail: “News about the opponent of
Yodsanan; prestigious promoter Songchai Ratanasuban have an absolute order
to change the opponent of Yodsanan 3K Battery.” Now this took me by surprise
as I didn’t know he had a fight. “Yodsanan 3K Battery, WBA super Bantam
Champ, is ordered to shuffle his opponent from mixed Arab -Egyptian boxer
Madgy Al Abdul to Filipino fighter Larry Pelonia.” Watch all the action live
next Friday on Channel 7 16:00 – 18:00. Be there or be square.
Hope you didn’t miss the extensive reports on the
charity boxing show, promoted by Patrick the Frog, on
page 48 in this week’s Mail. Another view came in.
“The fights were poorly attended and typical Thai - a
SNAFU. The ring girls were outstanding, literally as
they weren’t allowed in the ring. Something about
offending Buddha. The fights were some good, some bad. The ring timer
used his wristwatch and when he rang the bell nobody bought a round. What it
really needed was a top notch ring announcer from Las Vegas.” Hope the
timekeeper had a second hand on his watch. “They rang the bell and no body
bought a round.” I really like that.
Thai Democracy Day falls on October 14. This year to
help in the celebration The WBC Flyweight Champ
Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (47-2) will defend his title
against the number one contender Hussein Hussein
(22—0) who will probably be called “The Thunder from
Down Under” before fight time.
The Royal Palace will be the setting and showcase for
maybe the best fighter in Thailand. Mr. Hussein is a
different story. The only recognizable name in his
list of 22 wins is Wande Chor Charoen (39-6) the Thai
who was a former Mini weight champ. That aside its
hard to find the Aussie’s name on the list of top
fighters. Pongsaklek won the WBC Flyweight belt with
an impressive 1st round TKO (3 knock downs) over the
former champion Malcolm Tunacao. He also has the
quickest KO in flyweight history 34 seconds. That over
Japanese boxer Daisuke Naito who crumbled like the
Yen. How about them apples?
Enough already. I’ll bet you’re out there just on pins
and needles wondering what the heck old fun loving
Lennox Lewis, The Greatest Fighter on the Planet, is
up to. If so you all came to the right place. Lewis
told the BBC that a rematch with Vitali Klitschko may
be his last fight. “I would have nothing left to
prove. Even now I have nothing left to prove. I’m just
basically boxing for the fun of it.” The champ is 100%
correct. He no longer has to prove what an arrogant
pain in the butt he is. The world knows. As usual His
Highness, who got lucky against Klitschko, continues
to belittle his opposition. “I’ve already proven that
I can beat Klitschko on my worst day. He can never be
better than he was. He cuts very easily so I don’t see
the fight being that difficult. I’m not going to be in
the sport that long, I’m definitely getting old in
terms of this sport, but I’m going to make a wise
decision in the near future.” Best decision he could
make would be to “Shut Up” Babbling retard.
Robert Dalisay (reportedly 11-7-2; 3KO) said last
Thursday afternoon, “I will KO Somsak within 10
rounds, because I had very good training for more than
2 months. I reviewed his fights via the video tapes
many times.” Friday afternoon Somsak Singhchatchawarn (33-1-1) retained his
PABA Super Bantamweight with a 12 round not even close unanimous decision.
Somsak is WBA ranked #2. If he’s looking for a fight with Champ Manny
Pacquiao forgertaboutit. Pacquiao has a November date to move up one class
and fight Marco Antonio Barerra. Whoa Nelly what a fight. I’ll drink to
that.
