Nevada, Samuel Lopez, 118, 31 years old, of Los Angeles pulled an
upset, when he won a 10-round majority decision over world-ranked
Herberto Ruiz, 119, of Mexico. Final judges scores were 97-93,

Johnson loses

(SEPT 22) Today, Leavander Johnson passed
away after suffering a head injury when he fought Jesus Chavez on
September 17th, at the MGM Hotel, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“All of my prayers are with Leavander Johnson and his family in this
difficult time,” said Chavez. “He was a true warrior with a tremendous
heart, and every day I will think of him and say a prayer for him. He

Klitschko to fight Rahman in Vegas
On November 12,
2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and promoted by Top Rank, Vitali
Klitschko, of the Ukraine, 35-2 (34KO), defends his WBC Heavyweight
title against Hasin Rahman, 48-6-0 (33KO). The event will be billed
“See and Destroy”. Pay day for the two: Klitschko, will earn$7.8
million; Rahman receives $4.2 million.

September 17, in Kinder, Louisiana, there was two women’s bouts on the card. In one matchup,
Akondayne Fountain, 160, won a four-round split decision over

Christy "The Coal Miner's Daughter" Martin was training to prepare for her

to meet up with Martin! While Owen and Gottlieb were at the gym, the

Calzaghe Breaks Hand in Tune-up
(SEPT 12) On Saturday night, in what was reported as a “tune up”
fight, when he fought Kenyan’s Evans Ashira. Joe Calzaghe broke his
left hand (the metacarpal bone), during that bout. Calzaghe was set
to fight IBF champion Jeff Lacy on November 5th, but with
the injury, he will be in a cast for a month and out of the ring
until next year.

Nicolino Locche Dies Wednesday
(SEPT 9) On Wednesday, September 7th, Former Argentine
world champion Nicolino “The Untouchable” Locche died of heart
failure, at the age of 66 years old. Locche had won the WBA
title against Paul Fuji, of Japan in 1968. Locche, inducted to
Boxing's Hall of Fame in New York in 2003, lost his crown to
Panamanian Alfonso Frazer in 1972.
