John Ruiz No. 1 contender in WBA
LAS VEGAS (May 26, 2006) - Two-time world heavyweight champion John "The
Quietman" Ruiz (41-6-1, 28 KOs) is the World Boxing Association's No. 1
contender according to its latest ratings. Ruiz had petitioned the WBA
for an immediate rematch against Nicolay Valuev for the WBA heavyweight
title, or No. 1 rating, after losing a controversial decision last
December in Berlin.

Patterson Dies at 71
(MAY 13) Floyd Patterson, 71, died after suffering from Alzheimer's and
Prostate Cancer. Patterson became the youngest boxer to win a title when
he KO'd Archie Moore in 1956, at the tender age of 21 years old.
Ali was quoted in a news source in regards to Patterson, "Of all the men
I fought, Sonny Liston was the scariest, George Foreman was the most
powerful, but Floyd Patterson was the most skilful."

(MAY 13, 2006) Yesterday Naseem Hamed, a former WBO
world featherweight boxing champion, was jailed for 15
months when he was sentenced for “dangerous driving.”
He had serious injuried another motorist. According to
news sources, Hamed was driving a sports car, and he had a
head on collision with two other vehicles. He was not
injured. Hamed pled guilty to the charge last month,
and he will not be able to drive for four years. Hamed
