(MAY 29) Last night, at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle, in Stuttgart, Germany, and promoted by Universum Box Promotion,  United States Alicia Ashley, 115 ¾, won a ten round split decision and the GBU Bantamweight Championship over Alesia Graf, 115 ¾.  Final Scoring was 96-94, 96-95, and 94-96.  The German judge had Graf as the winner.  Full Story

Castaneda New Champ
(MAY 28) Last night at the Arco Arena, in Sacramento, California, and promoted by Don Chargin & Telefutura, In his second attempt at the IBA World Jr. Welterweight Championship, Sacramento's Rogelio Castaneda (140.0) broke open a three split after ten rounds by winning the bouts final two rounds on all cards to earn a majority decision over former IBA Champion Tomas Barrientes (138.75) of Mercedes, Texas. With the title on the line Castaneda dug deep in a bout that was often hard to score while long time rival Craig Weber watched live on 'Telefutura' back home in Mansfield, Ohio. A third bout between the two would seem the logical choice as their second fight (Draw 12) earned 'Telefutura Fight of the Year' honors for 2004.

Slone to paint the upcoming super fight between Kostya Tszyu and Ricky Hatton. Wright-Boone on ESPN2 Opening Fight!
(MAY 23) Seattle, Washington Light-Middleweight prospect Walter Wright (5-1, 3KO) will face undefeated Darnell Boone (4-0-1, 2 ko's) on ESPN2's Tuesday Night Fights this week from the Northern Quest Casino near Spokane.  Wright who normally fights at light-middleweight will come up to middleweight for this.   Northwest boxing promoter Brian Halquist will issue a statement regarding Wright's career after the fight. John Ruiz reinstated as WBA heavyweight champion
LAS VEGAS (May 17, 2005) - Team Ruiz was notified yesterday by the World Boxing Association that it has reinstated John "The Quietman" Ruiz as WBA heavyweight champion, effectively immediately. WBA letter: "Based on the actions of the New York State Athletic Commission and the test results on which the Commission relied, the WBA must vacate your championship ranking and reinstate John Ruiz as the champion."

Lopez regains Title
(MAY 7) David Lopez, the former IBA World and America's Champion at middleweight regained his America's version with a clear cut twelve victory over tough Danny Perez at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona this past Thursday night.  Lopez highlighted his victory with a seventh round knockdown of Perez who despite hitting the deck never quit moving forward.  At the bouts conclusion class-act Perez took the championship belt and placed it around the waist of Lopez.  Next for Lopez could be a rematch with reigning IBA World Champion Fulgencio Zuniga who took the title this past January with a come from behind 12th round stoppage of Lopez.

(MAY 6)  Today at the Club Hotel, in Dunaújváros, Hungary, the GBU bantamweight world champion Dr. Bettina Csábi (23-0; 10KO), of Hungary,  weighed in at  117 3/4 lbs.  Her opponent, the current WBC CIS and Slavic Countries Super Flyweight Champion, Russian Oksana Vasilyeva (5-2-0; 1KO) weighed at 118 lbs. This fight is the co-main event on the card, and televised live by TV2-Ring.

(MAY 2) This weekend, at the Isle of Capri Casino, in Lula, Mississippi, on April 30,  Christy Martin, now 45-3-2 (32KO), stopped Lana Alexander, now 2-7-0, when Martin dominated the first round, and then halfway through the second, Lana gave up, according to WBAN sources, adding another KO to Martin's boxing record in this obvious mismatch.  In the second women's boutCassandra Lindsey won a majority six-round decision over Cristy Nickel.

IBA's Toney Retires Ruiz
May 1, 2005

(MAY 1) With New York City's Madison Square Garden providing the backdrop reigning IBA World Heavyweight Champion James 'Lights Out' Toney combined a strong right hand with the best defense in the division to control WBA Champion John Ruiz from start to finish in the first defense of his IBA World Crown. Ruiz left the ring immediately after the decision was given and would later announce his retirement from the sport while Toney, improving to 69-4-2 with the win, was calling for IBA #1 contender Vitali Klitscho to meet him in his next World title defense.
