NEW YORK (June 27) - A special edition of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, featuring an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior middleweight world championship showdown, will air LIVE on July 8 at a special time - 10 p.m. ET/PT (tape delayed on the west coast).  More

"Fists of Fury" Live broadcast makes boxing HISTORY!  It's Official "WENPPV" and Powers Boxing made boxing history as they became the first network and promoter to broadcast a live boxing event via Internet browsers, smart phones, over 40 mobile hand held devices and video phones. The broadcast was seen all over the world and throughout the USA! We took a local boxing show and made it a global event. Viewers seem to be happy, said ring announcer Sam "The Fight Man" Ibrahim.

Amberber who defeated River Rouge's Matt Templeton by

Quarry Dies at age 55

(JUNE 17) Mike Quarry, 63-13-6 (17KOs),  a former light heavyweight boxer died Sunday evening, at an assisted living community in Orange County, California. Quarry was 55 years old, and died of pugilistic dementia.  The same illness claimed his older brother, Jerry Quarry, at the age of 53, in 1999.

Becerra heads to Vegas
June 16, 2006

(JUNE 16) On Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Cesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, NV, former NABA Super Flyweight Champion, Alex “El Diablo” Becerra 18-3 (8KO’s) of El Paso, TX, will face Raul Martinez 14-0 (10KO’s) of San Antonio, TX, in an 8-round Super Flyweight war. The event will be promoted by Main Events in association with Fresquez Productions.

Becerra is currently ranked #9 by the WBA, #15 by the WBO, and #14 by Fightnews.com. This is a big fight for Alex who has not been as active as his team would like. They are hoping that a victory over the undefeated Martinez will propel him into the next level to fight for a World Championship. The fight will be on the undercard of HBO’s After Dark featuring Calvin Brock vs. Timur Ibragimov (heavyweights) and Joel Julio vs. Carlos Quintana (welterweights).

Shibata charged for hit-and-run!
(JUNE 13) Some surprising news came into WBAN, that Japanese female boxer and kickboxer Sachiyo Shibata, 26 years old,  was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of injuring a -year-old woman in a hit-and-run traffic accident.  In the local news, they reported that Shibata was arrested by police on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in injury and violating the Road Traffic Law.  The accident occurred on February 2nd.

Jones said he will quit if he loses next bout

(JUNE 4) Roy Jones Jr., has told news sources that he plans to quit if he loses his next fight. He will be fighting at the Qwest Arena, in Boise, Idaho on July 29th.   Jones has had three straight losses.  Jones will be fighting Prince Badi Ajuna. AFTER CASTILLO FAILS TO MAKE WEIGHT  AND CORRALES BOUT IS CANCELLED  LAS VEGAS (June 3, 2006) – Saturday’s fight between Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo has been cancelled after Castillo failed to make the weight. Castillo weighed in four-and-one half pounds over the 135-pound limit on his first attempt. In his next try on the scales, at a little before 5 p.m. PT, Castillo also weighed 139 1/2 pounds.  More

(JUNE 2) Due to a reoccurring hand injury, Joe Calzaghe has withdrawn off the July 8th, boxing card, that was to take place at the Millennium Stadium.  The card will go as scheduled without him in the mainliner.   Although the hand is not broken, it was recommended that he rest the injury.
