Smithsonian wins Lewis gloves by TKO
WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A Canadian has donated the boxing gloves
heavyweight champ Joe Lewis used in his first fight against Max Schmeling to
Washington's Smithsonian Institution. Ken Milburn of Windsor, Ontario, says
the gloves have been in his family since Schmeling's 12th-round knockout of
Lewis at New York's Yankee Stadium in 1936, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
reported Friday. Although they would be a valuable collector's item, Milburn
told CBC Radio he never even considered selling the gloves.

Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali was honoured by his friend Billy Crystal on his
65th birthday last night (17JAN07). The former heavyweight champion was
watching Crystal perform at Arizona State University when the comedian
called him up onstage. Ali was then given a standing ovation for one minute,
while Crystal's wife JANICE brought out a birthday cake. Crystal told
