GOMEZ CLEARED AFTER
INVESTIGATION
(FEB 19) Former British champion Michael Gomez
has had his name cleared following his
controversial defeat to Peter McDonagh in Dublin
last month. Both fighters had their purses
withheld because of the manner of the stoppage,
in which Gomez turned his back on opponent, and
reports at least one Irish bookmaker suspended
betting on the bout.

boxers won regional bouts over the weekend in
San Jose to qualify for the U.S. Championships
March 4-11 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Making a
repeat trip to the national event will be 2008
Olympic hopefuls Brandon Gonzales, 178
pounds, and Stan Martyniouk, 132. They
will be accompanied by Lakesha Whittaker,
who will participate in the women's 154-pound
division.

(FEB 15) Today, the weigh-in for the
all-women's card took place at the Harrah's, in North Kansas City, Missouri.
Hollie "Hot Stuff" Dunaway (14-4, 9 KO’s) will be making a title defense
against Melissa "Haymaker" Shaffer (8-2, 5 KO’s) in the main event
Dunaway will be defending her WIBA minimum weight title.
Dunaway, weighed in at 99 lbs. Shaffer came in at 98 lbs.
Retired IFBA World champion, Kim "Fireball" Messer is part of Shaffer's team
and was on hand at the weigh-in.

Coroner: Boxer's death linked to blow to head

LEON (FEB 6) SARATOGA SPRINGS -- The death
of a 28-year-old Queensbury boxer after a sparring session
last week was likely the result of a brain injury brought on
by the sport he loved, a Saratoga County coroner said
Monday. Coroner Thomas Salvadore said initial autopsy
results indicate Richard J. Hermance Jr. died Thursday of a
subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by a workout session at the
