(DEC 29) Last night at the Johnny Mercer Theater, in Savannah,
Georgia, Chevelle Hallback won a 10-round unanimous decision
over Layla McCarter in a non-titled 10 rounder. This was NOT for the
IBA World title defense for Hallback as reported on other Internet news
sources that have it listed as a "title" fight. Earlier this week,
as reported on WBAN, McCarter pulled out of the IBA World 10-round title
fight when she claimed a hand injury. The promoter was trying
frantically to find a competent replacement for McCarter to fight Hallback
on this night's card. Then McCarter did take the fight, but it was made a
non-title 10 rounder. Final scores for this bout was 98-91, 97-95, 100-90.
WBAN spoke with IBA president Dean Chance and confirmed that this fight was
a non-title fight, and was not a title defense for his organization.

Oliveira-Johnson in crossroads title fight Jan. 11 at Dunkin’ Donuts
Center in RI |
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – Good boxers
eventually find themselves in a crossroads fight, in which, victory usually
means the difference between a shot at becoming a leading contender again
and spending the remainder of their career as merely a “name”
opponent. Normally, though, it’s only one fighter at the crossroads.
On the January 11th “Winter Warriors” card, promoted by Jimmy
Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, both of the 12-round main
event participants, “Sucra” Ray Oliveira (43-8-2, 20 KOs) and
“14-Karat” Golden Johnson (22-7-2, 16 KOs), will be in this
critical situation as they battle for the vacant IBU World Welterweight

completed rounds. The fight took place 45 minutes before the advertised time

Before we start this week, I would like to take
a moment to remember the passing of Archie Moore (182-24-9). Monday will
mark the fourth year we’ve been without the greatest person ever
associated with the Sport of Boxing. It was on December 9th, 1998 that God
called the "Ol Mongoose" up to straighten things out in Heaven.
Archie’s passing has left a void that may not ever be replaced. "God’s
that’s one you owe us." SATURDAY night was to have been the first
night of a rejuvenation of the heavyweight division. WBO World heavyweight
Champion Wladimir Klitschko (40-1) was defending his title against Jameel
McCline (28-3-3). It was announced that 6,580 showed up at the Mandalay Bay
