Golota vs. Lewis – Friday
Night Fury at Turning Stone This Week
November 11, 2003
(NOV 11) Oneida Nation Homelands— Six matches
make up the card of professional boxing at the Oneida Indian Nation’s
Turning Stone Resort and Casino on Friday, Nov. 14.
The Main Event features Heavyweights Andrew Golota (37-4, 30 KOs), who
splits his time between Poland and Chicago, against Philadelphia’s Terrence
Lewis (31-12, 21 KOs).
The evening will begin at 7:30 with a four-round Lightweight bout between
Ozer Ozyildirim (2-3) of Newark, N.J. and Cullen Rogers (4-5) of Akron,
Ohio.
The next match features promising Super Middleweight Pat Perez (24-3, 13
KOs) of Atlantic City. He is scheduled for six rounds against Dan Thornton
(14-9, 10 KOs) of Columbus, Ohio.
Then, two Big Apple Bantamweights -- Carlos Jacobo (10-6) of Brooklyn and
New Yorker Ubaldo Olivencia (5-2-2) -- will go six rounds.
Next up, Philadelphia power puncher Lujan Simon (6-0, 3 KOs) tries to remain
undefeated in a six-round Super Middleweight match against Mathew Thomson
(3-3) of Camden, N.J.
Another Philadelphia fighter with a perfect record, Sergio Melendez (5-0),
will step in to the ring with Akron’s Sam Harvey (12-11, 6 KOs). The
Middleweights will fight for six rounds.
That will be followed by the Main Event, Golota’s second fight since
re-emerging in excellent physical shape from a nearly three-year respite. In
August, the former contender out punched Brian Nix (18-11), winning by TKO
in the seventh round. Golota’s past opponents include Mike Tyson, Lennox
Lewis, Tim Witherspoon and Michael Grant.
Lewis has earned a reputation as a hard-hitting, wily veteran during a
career that has spanned more than a decade. His list of opponents includes
Michael Moorer, Friday Ahunanya and Greg Page.
