FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, April 02, 2003

LOS ANGELES, April 1, 2003 – Four fighters - all young, unbeaten and ready to take on the world. On Thursday, April 17, the future of Southern California boxing – Jose Navarro, Mike Anchondo, and Librado and Enrique Andrade - will bring their best to the legendary Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles for Golden Boy Promotions’ “Oscar De La Hoya Presents Boxeo De Oro”

This six bout card, presented by Golden Boy Promotions, will be televised on HBO Latino’s hit series, “Oscar De La Hoya Presents Boxeo De Oro”, beginning at 10pm ET / PT. Doors open at 5:00pm PT and the first bout begins at 5:30pm PT.

In the “Boxeo De Oro” main event, Navarro, a member of the 2000 US Olympic team, continues on his road to the top of the Super Flyweight division when he defends his IBA Continental Americas championship against Jorge Luis Gonzalez in a 12 rounder.

16-0 with 7 KOs, “El Angellino” is making his second appearance on “Boxeo De Oro”. In January, Navarro burst onto the world scene with a devastating second round knockout of fellow Californian Carlos Madrigal. He followed up this win a month later by outpointing Keyri Wong in the main event of Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo”. The 21-year-old is currently ranked 5th in the world by the WBO and 13th by the WBC.

The 24-year-old Gonzalez, a native of Mexico who now makes his home in Burbank, sports a record of 15-2 with 6 KOs. In his last bout he scored a third round knockout of Alex Becerra in El Paso, Texas.

April 17 also marks the return of Golden Boy Promotions to the Grand Olympic Auditorium. In January, the first “Boxeo De Oro” show drew a record crowd for a Thursday fight card in California, and the Los Angeles-based promoter will look to surpass this feat by bringing even more local talent to the fans.

Joining Navarro on the “Boxeo De Oro” card will be three of his Golden Boy Promotions stablemates. Together, the four prospects own a combined record of 64-0 with 41 KOs.

“Mighty” Mike Anchondo (20-0, 16 KOs), an unbeaten knockout artist whose good looks and swift left hook have drawn comparisons to Oscar De La Hoya, will make his first national TV appearance as a professional when he tangles with Columbian tough guy Roque Cassiani (21-11-15KOs) in a ten round lightweight contest.

In two off-TV bouts, the hard-hitting super middleweight brothers who are starting to make boxing observers sit up and take notice, will battle it out against to be determined foes in a pair of eight rounders.

Librado Andrade (14-0, 10 KOs) and Enrique Andrade (14-0, 8 KOs) have built up a substantial following on the California scene due to their crowd-pleasing styles, and on April 17, the two will continue to follow in the footsteps of the boxing heroes who have come before them at the Grand Olympic, such as Oscar De La Hoya, Julio Cesar Chavez, Danny "Little Red" and Ernie "Big Red" Lopez, Bobby Chacon, Pipino Cuevas, Lupe Pintor, Armando Muniz, Carlos Palomino and Salvador Sanchez. Librado will face Belize’s Errol Banner (6-6-4KOs), and brother Enrique will meet Norberto Sandoval (7-10-4K0s).

Tickets for “Oscar De La Hoya Presents Boxeo De Oro”, affordably priced at $100, $40, $25, $20, and $15, are available at the Grand Olympic Auditorium box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets.

Also available for boxing fans are “Oscar’s Special Family Package”, which offers six balcony tickets for just $69, and the “Golden Boy VIP Package”, which delivers two ringside floor seats, a Commemorative “Latino Legends” program, two VIP Post-Fight reception tickets, two Team De La Hoya T-Shirts, and a VIP parking pass for $295. To order either one of these special packages, please call 213-489-5631.
