Kohl
talks about Lewis, predicts knockout victory for Klitschko
(JUNE 17) Hamburg / Los Angeles - On June 21 and the biggest heavyweight
fight of the year - the WBC heavyweight championship between Lennox Lewis
and Dr. Vitali Klitschko at the Los Angeles Staples Center on June 21 –
German promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl predicts a knockout victory for his
Ukrainian charge.
"This fight is a huge challenge for Vitali. Lennox Lewis is rightfully
regarded as the ultimate heavyweight world champion. But Lewis never fought
against somebody like Vitali", Kohl said in the run up to the most important
fight in the history of his promotion company, the Hamburg based Universum
Box-Promotion, that he founded in 1984.
"Lewis never fought against somebody with the style of Vitali and this will
put him into big trouble. I'm confident Vitali will win this fight with his
speed and with his jab. And he will win by knockout. I could imagine that
Vitali will be ahead on the scorecards at the time the fight is over."
After almost one year of negotiations the 59-year-old German business man is
more than satisfied that the fight between Klitschko and Lewis finally takes
place. He said he respects Lennox Lewis as business partner. But Kohl was
surprised about recent negative comments that Lewis made about alleged lies
and overpricing.
"Of course I never lied to the Klitschko brothers. At all stages of our
negotiations with Lewis the Klitschkos and our lawyers were always informed
about the current situation", Kohl explained who in 9 years made 14
professional boxers world champions. "I never belie my boxers."
"Lewis shouldn't overlook that I represent the interests of Vitali Klitschko
and not the interests of Lennox Lewis. Vitali is the WBC and WBA mandatory
challenger. He is not just some voluntary challenger. He is ranked #1."
"I think it's normal that Lewis wasn't pleased about every single step we
took. But now that mega fight will take place and this means to me that
eventually we did everything right."
