(APR 13) Two of boxing’s most avoided
pugilist stepped into the squared circle to test their skills against
each other. Two-division world champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams
(37-1, 27 KOs) from Aiken South Carolina put on a spectacular
performance as he punished former unified junior middleweight world
champion Winky Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at the Mandalay
Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight was fought at the middleweight limit of 160 lbs. Williams’
punch output and pressure easily overwhelmed the defensive skills of
Wright from the opening bell. Scores were 119-109, 119-109, 120-108.
Williams, currently holds the WBO interim jr middleweight belt.
I had a chance to chill out with Paul and manager George Peterson, ( I
have a long time personal relationship with both gentleman), before the
fight. His confidence level was unsurpassed when he spoke about how he
would methodically dismantle the once most avoided man in boxing. I
apologize for not being able to provide pictures of all the pre fight
festivities. My camera was lost before I had a chance to save them to my
laptop. We applaud Paul for his dominant performance and keeping South
Carolina on the map.
