Hybrid Fighter Returns to
the Boxing Arena

(JAN 30) MMA combatant, Poppies "Tachi
Kid" Martinez (16-5, 1 NC), makes his way back to the boxing ring after
knocking out Ben Witthar in his pro debut. The "Tachi Kid" is the former
PFC lightweight champion and held the WEC Native American and
welterweight titles. Martinez will face and Flavio Cardoza Friday
February 6, 2009 at the Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore Ca.
Known as a striker in the MMA scene, Martinez has made a smooth
transition into boxing as he stated, "I've always had powerful punching
power in both hands. I feel I can make the move to boxing if I keep
working hard in the gym. I'm still going to fight in the MMA arena, but
continue to do both. My goal is to be the first hybrid fighter to win
titles in both boxing and MMA."
In the main event, former Olympic Gold Metal winner, Andrew "SOG" Ward
will be defending his NABO Super Middleweight, along with the NABF Super
Middleweight Championship against Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan. The Live "ShoBox:
The New Generation" coverage on Showtime will begin at 11 pm ET/PT
(delayed on the west coast).
