(JAN 24) Huntington, NY- On a fight card
as Havoc II promoted by Bob Duffy and Frankie G four time national
champion and Olympic alternate Adam the “Bellport Kid” Willett won his
pro debut in defining fashion. Willett took on the tough journeyman
Andrew “Came to Fight” Hutchinson a veteran of tough fights with the
likes of Gurcharan Singh, Eric Kirkland, Shaun George and Matthew
Godfrey.
Absent from the ring since the Olympic trials where he earned a spot as
an alternate to Deontay Wilder, the only American boxer to medal at the
2008 Summer Olympics Willett put to rest his amateur style and “came to
fight.” Willett used his speed and an educated uppercut to counter punch
the rugged Hutchinson with a solid body attack winning a one sided
decision.
When asked how he felt after the fight the 26 year old Willett replied
“I was a little nervous and got caught up in the moment I abandoned my
jab to the dislike of my coaches looking to fight more of a pro style
but all considered I’m happy with the win and I’ll will be right back in
the lab with my coaches and do what ever it takes.”
