Homage to Genaro Hernandez--
great success
January 23, 2009
(JAN 23) The WBC in coordination
with the WBC Legends of Boxing Museum Committee, held a meeting last
Saturday January 17th, to pay homage to a great former world champion,
who is, without a doubt, one of the most beloved boxers within the world
of boxing, as he is a clean, altruistic and exemplary person in every
respect, Genaro “Chicanito” Hernandez.
“Chicanito” is currently
struggling in a battle against that disease named cancer, but with the
heart of a lion, his exemplary optimism and the unity of his family and
all the boxing community, we are certain he will achieve victory in this
fight.
Dinner served as a means to gather contributions to help his family pay
the high cost of the medical treatment he is being given, and the event
exceeded all expectations. 500 people got together and enjoyed a very
Mexican dinner which was prepared by volunteers of the museum.
The boxing community participated and the event collected nearly USD $
30,000, taking into account donations, tickets to the dinner and
auctioning of very exclusive items. The WBC wants to thank, in a very
special way, Dr. Harry Hwang, Jill Diamond, Rudy Tellez, and all the
members of the organization committee who were able to make a huge
success of this event. Likewise, we wish to thank all those who have
sent their donations to WBC Cares or directly to the Hernandez family,
very specially.
