Fight Night at the
Radisson “Standing Room Only”

(JAN 12) On Saturday night, a standing
room only crowd was treated to a night of professional boxing at The
Radisson Hotel as Shane "The Irish Hitman" Benfield won a unanimous
decision over Mickey Stackhouse in a light heavy weight bout that had
the sell-out crowd on its feet from beginning to end.
Benfield, 18-2 (12 KO's) controlled the bout from the onset but not
without a few shaky moments as Stackhouse, 16-6 (10 KO's) and always
dangerous, would find a home for his right hand on several occasions. In
the end, it was Benfield's superior skills that took over and helped
move him one step closer to a world title shot.
The 10 bout undercard was highlighted by Columbia, South Carolinas
middle weight prospect Chris "Fantasm" Fitzpatrick, winning a unanimous
decision against Oklahoma native Larry Norwood. Both fighters were
undefeated and neither wanted to receive their first loss. Fitzpatrick,
3-0 (1 KO) showed why he is being called the future of the Columbia
boxing scene as he systematically picked apart Norwood, now 2-1 (2KO's).
Using a quick jab and excellent footwork, Fitzpatrick continuously
landed 3 & 4 punch combinations and would move out of harms way before
the frustrated Norwood could retaliate with any meaningful shot of his
own. Fitzpatrick had an impressive showing in his first fight in his new
home town and all fan's watching live were impressed with the 21 year
olds ring generalship. "Chris started boxing at the age of 8. He's had
over 100 amateur fights and his experience shows, " said Promoter Andrew
Stokes of Palmetto Boxing. "We're very excited about his future."
Also on the undercard making her professional debut was 20-year old
Angel "Non-Stop" Gladney, 131, of Columbia, South Carolina, and
amateur stand-out made short work of North Carolina''s Mercedes Grey,
131, when Gladney TKO'd Grey, who went down and out at 1:13 of the first
round.
