Shane McGuigan, son of former Irish
Olympian and WBA World featherweight champion Barry McGuigan, will box
at the upcoming National U/21 Championships at the National Stadium in
Dublin.
McGuigan junior emulated one of his fathers achievements when he claimed
an Ulster senior title in Belfast last April.
And now the 19 year old welterweight is aiming to add an Irish U/21
title to his ever growing CV - thirty years after
McGuigan senior, who represented Ireland at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow,
claimed an Irish U/21 title in 1978.
Shane McGuigan is a member of the Aleysham ABC in Kent but is also a
member of his fathers old Clones club.
The Irish U/21 Championships will begin at the National Stadium on
Friday October 24th.
