Everything is set for the "Rise to Glory"
Fight card this Friday July 18
(JULY 14) Five young promises risk unbeaten records; weigh-in and Press
Conference to be held on Thursday at the Maywood Activity Center.
Everything is set ready for the "Rise to Glory" fight card in which several
of the best promises of boxing in Southern California and international
boxing risk their unbeaten records, this Friday July 18 at the Maywood
Activity Center, Maywood, California.
The card will be promoted by Crossroads Promotions, headed by Eddie
Gonzalez.
In the event that starts at 7:30 pm, five talented fighters come in unbeaten
in their young pro careers, led by the German of Russian origin, Adaev
Ramzan, who arrives with a 6-0-1 mark, with 6 knockouts. Adaev is listed as
the fifth best fighter in Germany in his weight class.
For Adaev, this will be his first fight outside Germany and his opponent
will be Roberto "Sugar" Ventura, from Villahermosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, who
has 11 fights as a professional. Ventura fights out of Las Vegas and has
already fought for World Boxing Council’s Youth World Title.
After a perfect 5-0 start, Ventura has fallen in his last six fights,
including a disqualification. But even knowing the quality of opponent, the
Mexican fighter is confident his experience will be enough to win the fight.
"I've seen Adaev fight, an he seems like a heavy handed puncher, but I think
I have better technique and more experience, more rounds and fighting
against experienced boxers and a victory would surely straighten out my
career."
The fight is scheduled for 8 rounds in the super welter weight division.
In the co main event, undefeated Lester "Cubanito" Gonzalez 6-0, 5KO's,
owner of a great track record as an amateur in the Cuban team is making his
debut in the Los Angeles area in a light heavyweight 6 round bout. He will
go against the Canadian based in Las Vegas, Jason Douglas. Douglas was not
impressed with the opponent, since he also arrives undefeated ( 5-0) and an
amateur track record that lists him as British Commonwealth Champion in 2002
and a Bronze Medal winner in the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo in
2003. In total, he had a record of 77 victories as an amateur in 88 fights,
26 of them by knockout.
In his last start, Douglas (5-0) came to Southern California, to beat then
unbeaten Jesus Berrelleza.
The local talent will be headed by former USA Boxing team members, Charles
Huerta and Efrain Esquivias.
Charles Huerta, the pride of Paramount had over one hundred amateur fights
and was considered the number two U.S amateur fighter in his weight class.
He now holds a mark of 5-0 and will face Oscar Marin, from Las Vegas, Nevada
in a featherweight 6 round match.
Charles Huerta fights his second bout in less than a month after beating
Manuel Sarabia on June 27, in a rematch held at Casino Morongo.
In the other bout, Esquivias, the National Champion Gold Gloves in 2006 and
a native of Carson, Calif., will face Frank Gutierrez, of San Bernardino in
the super bantam division.
Esquivias makes his return to Maywood after a 1-round knockout of Rogelio
Valenzuela in February, in a fight also held at the Maywood Activity Center.
The card will be complemented with the fight between Richard Ellis and Luis
Martinez. Ellis makes his return to Maywood, after loosing a close decision
on his debut last February, while becoming a crowd favorite.
The boxers traveling from outside the Los Angeles area will be making their
arrival on Wednesday in preparation for weigh-in the Press Conference
scheduled for Thursday, July 17 at 6:00 pm at the event venue.
Tickets for the evening will be available on Friday at the box office.
