Edwards vs. Bell Thriller Supported By
Solid Undercard
(MAR 25) This Friday, March 28, 2008 sees Chris Edward's first defense of
the newest title in British boxing, the super flyweight, against English
titlist Andy Bell at the Metrodome in Barnsley, England. This fight between
the smallest active champion in Britain has caught the public's imagination
and the venue is already 85 percent sold out on a bank holiday weekend.
Honest hardworker Edwards has risen from the ranks of journeymen in similar
fashion to current British bantamweight champion Ian Napa and will give 110
percent to outwork the taller, more skillful Andy Bell, who has been
sparring in Tenerife with super bantamweight prospect Danny Wallace.
Wallace will also be on the bill, scheduled for a six round warmup against
an overseas opponent before taking on the undefeated Mark Moran for the
English super bantam title this spring.
Chief support at the Metrodome is provided by a ten round super flyweight
contest between former British bantamweight challenger Lee Haskins and
English bantam titlist Jamie McDonnel. The winner will be looking to meet
the winner of Edwards vs. Bell.
Also looking to stake a claim on a championship fight will be the winner of
the ten round Central Area light middleweight title contest between Jason
Rushton and Danny Reynolds. This fight could turn out to be a real small
hall thriller, certain to have the crowd on their feet. Many are tipping
Reynolds in the early rounds but the boxing skills of Rushton could outlast
the pressure of Reynolds and win it on a points decision.
With the cancellation of the card that featured his greatly anticipated
English title clash with John Murray, exciting lightweight John Fewkes, who
some call the most skillful boxer in Britain today, has been added to the
Metrodome bill in a six rounder against an overseas opponent in order to
keep active until the rescheduled date of the Murray fight.
