Rendall Munroe, "The Fighting Dustman", who
challenges Kiko Martinez for his European super bantamweight title on March
7 at Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham, has finished his hard
training with four competitive sparring rounds with British super
featherweight champion Carl Johanneson, who is also finishing up his own
training ahead of his eagerly anticipated title defense against Commonwealth
champion Kevin Mitchell on March 8 in London.
"I've driven up to Leeds three times in the last week for sparring with Carl
Johanneson," said Munroe. "Although it is an hour and a half each way and
I've had to change my training program, it has well been worth it.
"Johanneson gives no quarter and takes no prisoners while sparring and I am
tipping him to be successful this coming weekend, just as I believe I will
be against Martinez. Don't be surprised if Johanneson knocks out Mitchell.
The sparring has been of great value to me; it has taught me what I need to
know to defeat 'The Bull' from Spain".
Chief support in Nottingham will feature the first defense of Commonwealth
bantamweight champion Jason Booth, who takes on dangerous African Lante
Addy. A young, iron-chinned warrior from Ghana, Addy has taken no chances
and arrived in London this past weekend, where here will spend three days
before driving up to Nottingham.
The card also sees young Belfast heavyweight Scott Belshaw looking to state
his claim on the domestic scene. Added to this great value card is Celtic
lightweight champion, Gary Buckland, who has signed a contract with Frank
Maloney's FTM Sports and will be looking for his new promoters to push him
into the lightweight mix.
