(JULY 21) Again, I find it easy to say that Houston and it’s surrounding
area fans really love boxing!... They love both the professional and the
amateur levels of the sport!.... Continuing to exhibit the Houston area
enormous promising professionals and developing amateur boxing talents,
local promoter, Leland Dean owner of Leland D.

Houston first; a joint Press Conference with fellow local fight promoter.
Bobby Jones who is holding a fight night inside the Pasadena Convention
Center on August 15, with yet another set of awesome displays from within
the local boxing and MMA talent pool.
The Press Conference and fight night will be attended by a who’s who A-list
of Houston celebrities in sports and music entertainment, whom are expected
to attend both the Press Conference and fight nights. There are other bells
and whistles to be listed on the
link web site as the date
gets closer.
Already agreed to come down from Hartford, Connecticut as one of the events
commentators for the action packed fight night will be none other than
ESPN Classic commentator, who commentated alongside Joe Tessitore and
"Former IBF World Title Challenger “Iceman” John Scully" a very well known
ex-fighter with a special passion for this years “Think Pink” fund-raising
cause. The subject of Breast Cancer is very close to John’s heart,
because his mother passed away in 1996 from the disease.
Other pro-boxing well known Combinative Sports Industry heavy-hitters
invited to be attend the event will be renowned coach/trainer/manager Thell
Torrence, who was trained by the late great Eddie Futch, and who has trained
many champions himself. Another invited guess is Eddies Futch's wife Eva “da
Eva” Futch in addition to invited guest renowned retired pro-referee Richard
Steel. Several invited Retired Boxing Foundation veterans, such as Alex
Romas and Mike Indri, are asked to take part in the pre-fight Charity Gala
to be held on Thursday, October 2, location TBA, honoring several Houston
area retired boxing veterans that have really made a positive impact on
various combative sports era’s with a fashion show modeled by current and
retired pro-boxers in their quest to raise money for the Retired Boxers
Foundation as they introduce the launch of “Golden Years” Energy Drink. An
Energy Drink created to benefit the foundation's members who have for one
reason or the other might have fallen on hard times.
Local renowned celebrities to be on hand will be Termite Watkins and WWF
Champion fighter Booker T, just to name a few of what the night has in
store. The fight card is long, filled with local top prospect talent, but
it's not going to take two rings of knockout action to complete the night’s
slugfest. Boxing is a part of the southeastern region of the state that is
certainly on the rise. There is said to have been over 60 scheduled
professional fight nights since January 2008 in Texas alone. Not to even
mention the current interest and increase of pro-boxing dates in nearby
Louisiana. Since January 2007, the Texas Combative Sports Commission is
reporting record highs of combative sports promotion companies applying for
promoters licenses to produce consistent local area pro boxing and mixed
martial arts live action dates. Also on the card are a few scheduled MMA
fights.
Both past and recent research, conducted by S.I.B. Sports & Entertainment
Marketing Media Services has shown Houston to be the number one pay-per-view
combative sports market in the United States. Surveys show more buys being
purchased out of Houston than either Las Vegas or New York City. Houston is
a very marketable site for the growing sport and of course for companies
that are trying to brand products or services throughout the combative
sports industries covering live boxing, Mixed Martial Arts and/or wrestling
live events.
This is a plus-plus to the new Fight Time USA Television Series that will
soon start to air weekly local action shows in prime-time on one of the
local stations in addition to some Direct TV airings and some Comcast airing
dates. The fight nights are set to air before midnight in the Houston area
on a weekly program format. In addition to airing on both Comcast and Direct
TV cable networks nationally, the dreams don’t’ stop for Houston dreamers as
they set their dreams into motion to become reality, by networking and
utilizing each others resources in premarketing.
