End of the Year
Tragedies
(DEC 26) There were several tragic events surrounding boxers this year. In
one incident, Anthony Barnett, 17 years old, was stabbed to death at a
Christmas party (Lutana). Barnett, a promising amateur boxer had won a
gold
medal from the Australian Amateur Boxing League titles in Parkes, New South
Wales this month. Shaun Daniel Hale, 18, of East Bagdad Rd, Bagdad, was
charged with the murder and appeared before justice of the peace in the
Hobart Magistrates Court.
In another
tragic event, 19-year old boxer Richard Egan, a talented boxer, died in a
late night car crash on the Heads of The Valley road . Egan died when his
Ford Fiesta was involved in a collision with a Mercedes lorry at 10.49pm on
Friday, December 21.
Lastly,
South Korean boxer Choi Yo-Sam, 33 years old, fell into a coma this Tuesday
after he won the bout and defended his WBO International flyweight title.
