According to the President of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association, Dominic O'Rourke, some of the future stars of Irish amateur boxing will be showcasing their talent in Dublin over the next fortnight.

He said: "The Intermediate Championships are traditionally a stepping stone toward the National Senior Championships and I believe that some of the boxers competing at the National Stadium over the next few weeks will go on to become the future stars of Irish amateur boxing.

"The Intermediate Championships are always a very exciting tournament and we are anticipating some top class boxing this year.

"We have already received a fantastic entry and I would like to wish all the boxers and their clubs the best of luck at this years tournament."

Four boxers, John Murray, Shane McKeown, Stephen O'Reilly and Phelim Halligan reached last years finals and will be hoping to go one step further this time out.

Murray was edged out by Shane Hickey in the 2006 decider while McKeown was beaten by Patrick Ward of the
Galway Boxing Club.

O'Reilly lost a close light middleweight final to Donal Ward just under twelve months ago. However, O'Reilly has now stepped up to middleweight and will be looking to add an Irish 75Kg title to his impressive CV.

Light heavyweight Phelim Halligan was beaten by Patrick Corcoran, also of the Galway Boxing Club, in the 2006 final.

The 2007 Intermediate Championships will run over the next three weekends before concluding on the weekend starting December 7th.

2007 National Intermediate Championships Schedule Friday November 23rd.
