ESPN Invades Augusta to Showcase Local Star
July 13, 2007
AUGUSTA, GA – A press conference has been called to announce an upcoming boxing extravaganza. Local boxing superstar, Rayonta Whitfield (17-0, 8 KO’s), once again is to be featured on the sports network into 95 million homes live from the Bell Auditorium in his hometown of Augusta, GA. Rayonta, currently the North American Boxing Organization Flyweight Champion and the #1 ranked flyweight in the United States, brought ESPN to Augusta last year as he excited fans with an exciting battle that saw him winning a unanimous decision over Evaristo Primero on April 21, 2006 at the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center. Whitfield’s foe for the August 1, 2007 bout will be Colombian Flyweight Jair Jimenez (22-7, 15 KO’s). Also on the card will be an NABO Featherweight title fight between Antonio Davis (23-3, 11 KO’s) of Atlanta, GA and Leon Bobo (16-0, 2 KO’s) of St. Louis, MO. Both these fighters fought on the April 21, 2006 card in Augusta in separate exciting bouts. A special attraction on the card will be legendary amateur champion Bennie Heard (4-0, 3 KO’s) from nearby Elberton, GA. The 5 bout card will be promoted by Prize Fight Promotions in association with Club Dreams and Comcast. Tickets for the event start at $15and will go on sale Tuesday, July 17th.
