"The
Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire scores 5th round knockout
(JULY 8) A left hook square on the temple of former champ Vic Darchinyan
has put Nonito Donaire on top of the 112 pound division. Darchinyan was
a heavy favorite, having a perfect record and never being hurt in any of
his 28 pro bouts. Donaire countered the awkward Armenian with precision
until the explosive left hook ended the fight at 1:38 of round 5. Nonito,
now 18-1 will return to the Bay Area and be a special guest at THE RIOT
this Saturday at the San Jose Civic Auditorium.
Donaire joins "Sugar" Shane Mosley, James
Page, Stevie Johnston, Robert Guerrero, Carina Moreno and Gina Guidi as
the 7th World Champion promoted by Jerry Hoffman's 12 Sports
Productions. Nonito avenges the loss of his brother Glenn who had his
jaw broken when he fought Darchinyan last year. |
