A WORLD
TITLE FIGHT BETWEEN CAZARES AND VALDEZ PEREZ
LAS VEGAS, April 5 – The night before the super fight between Oscar De
La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, some of the world’s best fighters will be
in action as Golden Boy Promotions presents “Fiesta Boxeo” at MGM Grand.
The eyes of the world will be on Las Vegas for the biggest boxing
weekend in decades which kicks off Friday, May 4 with the championship
bout between World Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight champion
Hugo Cazares and challenger Wilfrido Valdez Perez.
This exciting night of world-class professional boxing will be held in
the Grand Ballroom at the MGM Grand Conference Center and will feature
the WBO championship bout, as well as the return of 2000 Olympian
Francisco “Panchito” Bojado to the ring. The event will air live on

A native of Los Mochis, the same Mexican city that produced world
champion Fernando Montiel, Cazares (24-3-1, 18 KOs) joined this
exclusive club when he out-pointed Nelson Dieppa in April 2005 to win
the WBO light flyweight title. It was a dream come true for the
hard-punching 29-year-old, who has been fighting world-class competitors
for almost as long as he has been in the sport. Since winning the crown,
the exciting southpaw has defended his title four times, most recently
stopping Dieppa in the 10th round of their rematch September 30, 2006.
Perez (23-1-3, 16 KOs), the World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino champion
from Cartagena, Colombia, has battled each opponent placed in front of
him as he worked his way to the top of the world rankings. The
28-year-old Perez is eager to make his mark on the boxing scene with a
win over Cazares on May 4.
Bojado (16-2, 11 KOs), the 2000 Mexican Olympian is looking to regain
the fighting style that had fight insiders calling him the “next great
fighter to reign from Mexico.” Returning to the ring for the first time
since a split decision loss to Jesse James Leija in 2004, the
23-year-old Bojado is young, dangerous and ready to ascend to the top of
the junior welterweight division. His opponent has yet to be determined.
Also featured on the “Fiesta Boxeo” card are unbeaten prospects Lucas
Matthysee (16-0, 15 KOs), Euri Gonzalez (13-0, 9 KOs) and Anthony
Martinez (3-0, 3 KOs). Opponents for these hard-hitting fighters will be
announced in the near future.
