Squad named

(MAR 28) THE Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) have named an eight
man squad of national senior champions for the Geebee Multi Nations in
Finland next month.
Conor Ahern, Ryan Lindberg, David Oliver Joyce, John Joe Joyce, Aodh
Carlyle, Darren Sutherland, Ian Tims and Cathal McMonagle will represent
Ireland in Helsinki between April 12 and 16.
Donegal born super heavyweight McMonagle, who boxes out of the Holy
Trinity club in Belfast, will be making his debut at this level in the
Finnish capitol.
March was a very successful month for Irish boxers who took home one
gold, four silver, and three bronze medals from senior Multi Nations in
Croatia and Poland.
The Irish junior squad also bagged four gold and one silver medal at the
Lithuanian Multi Nations this month.
The Irish panel will be under coaches Billy Walsh and Zuar Anita in
Finland where they will be hoping to repeat last years haul of one gold,
one silver and two bronze medals and the boxer of the tournament award.
Middleweight Darren O'Neill, from the Paulstown club in Dublin, won gold
and boxer of the tournament award at the
2006 GeeBee Multi Nations, while the St Michael's Athy trio of David
Oliver Joyce,John Joe Joyce and Roy Sheahan bagged one silver and two
bronze medals between them.
European bronze medallist Ken Egan and national senior welterweight
champ Roy Sheahan are both out injured with hand injuries.
