IBRAGIMOV READIES FOR RUSSIAN
HOMECOMING
AGAINST BRIGGS ON JUNE 2
HOLLYWOOD, FL, March 12 – Fresh off a 46 second annihilation of Javier
Mora on Saturday night at The Theater in Madison Square Garden, number
one WBO Heavyweight contender Sultan Ibragimov is looking forward to
getting his shot at champion Shannon Briggs on June 2, in his home
country of Russia.
“I’ve been ready for Briggs for a long time and I’m just waiting to win
the belt officially back home in Russia,” said Ibragimov. “June 2nd will
be a big night for me and my fans.”
The unbeaten Ibragimov’s promoters, Seminole Warriors Boxing, Golden Boy
Promotions, and Golden Grain Promotions, have finalized plans to bring
the WBO Heavyweight Championship bout to Moscow, Russia on June 2.
Ibragimov, the pride of Rostov-na-Donu, Russia, was originally scheduled
to face Briggs last Saturday in New York City, but the WBO champion
withdrew from the bout, claiming illness. Ibragimov didn’t want to
disappoint his fans by having the entire card scrapped, so he took on
late replacement Mora and destroyed him in less than a minute.
Now he just waits to return home to win his long-awaited title shot.
“This has been a long time coming and I’m tired of fighters like Briggs
running from me,” said Ibragimov. “He can’t run much longer, and when I
catch him on June 2nd, I will make him pay for my wait.”
“Briggs backed out of the Garden Party but hopefully he won’t elude
Sultan’s Homecoming Celebration,” said Leon Margules, Executive Director
of Seminole Warriors Boxing. |
