  Five Irish Boxers Into Finals..
By Bernard O'Neill

(MAR 9) Ryan Lindberg, David Oliver Joyce, John Joe Joyce, Darren Sutherland and Ken Egan will be competing for gold at tomorrows (March 10th) Zlatko Hrbic Senior Multi Nations finals in Croatia following semi final victories in Zagreb this afternoon and tonight (March 9th).

Ryan Lindberg, from the Immaculatta club in Belfast, advanced to tomorrows bantamweight decider after a
convincing 30-16 win over Hungary's David Oltvany.

And the St Michael's Athy duo of David Oliver Joyce and John Joe Joyce recorded featherweight and lightweight last four wins over the German pair of Markus Abramowski (43-19) and Eugen Berhard (24-16).

Middleweight Darren Sutherland (St Saviours OBA, Dublin) is also eight minutes from gold following a 32-19 victory over Italian puncher Ivano Del Monte.

And European bronze medallist Ken Egan (Neilstown, Dublin ) chalked up an 8-7 light heavyweight semi final win over Germanys Rene Krause. Egan injured his left hand en route to victory against Krause and is a doubt for tomorrows final.

Light flyweight Paddy Barnes (Holy Family, Belfast ) and flyweight Conor Ahern (Baldoyle) bowed out
following semi final reversals to Redounane Asloune of France, and Russia's Ilgiz Makhmuto this afternoon.

Commentating on today's boxing the Director of the Irish Amateur Boxing Associations High Performance
Unit, Gary Keegan, said they were delighted with the wins.

He said: "There were some top class performances all round from the Irish squad and we are very pleased
with today's victories.

"David Oliver Joyce produced the performance of the tournament so far against the German lad and it was a lot closer than the score suggests but David showed his fitness and conditioning to stay on top throughout the fight.

"Ryan also looked very impressive in his win. Kenny injured his left hand in his bout and we will wait until tomorrow to make a decision on whether he competes in his final."
