WILMER
VASQUEZ OF VENEZUELA OFF FEBRUARY 16, 2007 CARD IN NEW YORK
New York, February 7, 2007—Wilmer Vasquez, 1-0 (1 KO), the hard-punching
heavyweight who represented his native Venezuela in the 2004 Olympic
Games in Athens, has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled
appearance in metropolitan New York on February 16.
The boxing show, which is being promoted by Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions
and Frankie G. Productions, is being headlined by undefeated Irish
sensation James Moore, 9-0 (7 KOS), a native of County Wicklow who now
resides in Queens, will take place at the historic Plattduetsche Park
restaurant in Franklin Square, Long Island, New York.
Vasquez, who is promoted by DRL Promotions and mentored by, among
others, the legendary Roberto Duran, was forced to return home due to
the illness of his mother.
“I am sorry that Wilmer is unable to fight, but he is where he should be
at a time like this,” said Duffy. “He is very close to his family, and
the health of his loved ones is much more important than a boxing match.
Everyone involved in the promotion extends their best wishes to Wilmer
and his family during this difficult time.”
The Plattduetsche restaurant is located at 1122 Hempstead Turnpike in
Franklin Square, which is approximately one mile east of Belmont
Racetrack, phone 516-354-3131. |
