Tapia announces Final Furry retirement fight!

(JAN 18) Five-time former World Champion and living legend Johnny (MI Vida Loca) Tapia 55-5-2 28 KO’s, held a press conference on Wednesday, January 17 to announce his final fight. The fight will be held at Isleta Casino and Resort in Albuquerque, NM on February 23, 2007. Tapia, already a lock for the Boxing Hall of Fame, lost his last fight in September of 2005 and refuses to end his career with a defeat. He will take on IIido Julio 33-10-1 29 KO’s.

Tapia said at the press conference that this is for sure his last fight. With over 60 professional fights, over 200 amateur fights, and a lot of street fights, Johnny says, “it’s time for me to hang up the gloves, but I want to go out with a win and to be on top.”

“I will give my hometown one last fight” stated Tapia. “I really want to out-box Ilido but, you know once he hits me and I taste blood, it's on. It's time for me to pass the torch to the younger guys and give them the opportunity.” Tapia plans on training fighters in Farmington, NM after this fight. His son Johnny Tapia II makes his amateur debut in March and will be Tapia's first student.

There is no doubt this will be an emotional night for Tapia, his family and the fans. Tapia has spilled his blood, sweat and tears for his fans and family. We expect nothing less on this special night. “A living legend comes to the end of his Hall of Fame career and we are very happy to be putting on this show for Johnny” states Promoter Lenny Fresquez. “This will be Johnny's ninth fight with Fresquez Productions Inc. and he has never disappointed us or his fans. We are just proud to be putting this fight on and having this great night of action, says Fresquez.”

Tickets start at $25 and are available at Tickets.com or Isleta Box Office or by calling 505-884-7484. Go to www.fresquezproductions.com for more information on fight card.
