Dundee Headed Back into Jimmy
Lange’s Corner
November 23, 2006 |
Fairfax, VA (November 23, 2006) -- Johnny Lange, father/manager of
middleweight contender JIMMY LANGE (27-3-1, 19 KOs) announced yesterday
that renowned trainer ANGELO DUNDEE will return to Fairfax next month to
work Lange’s corner in his 12-Round WBC Continental Americas (154-lb.)
championship title bout against the dangerous FONTAINE CABELL (22-6-1,
17 KOs) on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Patriot Center.
“I think Jimmy is very special and has a lot of tremendous qualities
that impress me,” said the legendary Dundee. “Jimmy has a lot of tools
and will only get better and better. We’ll be more comfortable working
together this second time around. I look forward to returning to Fairfax
to work with him and his team.”
The legendary trainer, who has guided 15 world champions including
Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, and Carmen Basilio,
served as Lange’s chief second last October during the boxer’s10-Round
TKO against Tommy Wilt. Dundee will join Lange’s team of regular
handlers – BUDDY MCGIRT (head trainer), JIMMY GLENN (cutman), TOMMY
GALLAGHER (advisor), JACKIE KALLEN (advisor), and JOHNNY LANGE -- at the
Patriot Center event.
“I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work with such talented
and respected individuals such as Buddy McGirt, Angelo Dundee, Jimmy
Glenn, Jackie Kallen, Tommy Gallagher and the late Al Gavin,” Lange
explained. “I’m proud to be associated with the highly-regarded
Washington, D.C. Metro boxing scene, along with great fighters like
Sugar Ray Leonard, Sharmba Mitchell, William Joppy, and rising star Paul
Williams. I’m ready for this fight and I’m prepared to bring the WBC
title home to the Washington/Northern Virginia area. I appreciate all
the continued support from my fans and am prepared to take my game to
the next level on December 9th at the Patriot Center.”
The Lange-Cabell championship showdown is part of a six-card event being
presented by Major League Boxing. Exciting undercard bouts scheduled for
the evening include “THE PRIDE OF PORTSMOUTH” DORIN SPIVEY (34-4, 28
KOs) versus DEAN “THE PIT BULL” WHITE (13-5-1, 6 KOs) of Smithsburg, MD;
former WBO Cruiserweight and USBA Cruiserweight champion BOONE PULTZ
(23-1, 15 KOs) of Odenton, MD, coming out of retirement; undefeated
junior lightweight prospect ANDREW FARMER (4-0, 4 KOs) of Manassas, VA,;
