  Ontario Boxing Championships
By Margaret Canty

(NOV 12) The Border City Boxing Club captured 5 Gold Medals at the Ontario Championships this weekend in Windsor. In the Junior Division Eyobe “Sharpshooter” Amberber won his first Provincial Title (119 lbs.), stopping John Seo of Orangeville in the third round, then out-pointing last year’s National Champion Adrian
Sinanan of Bramalea in the final. “Jackknife” Josh
Cameron (141 lbs.) TKOed Toronto’s Daniel Khan, then
defeated Oakville’s Tim Smith by a 42-31 score.
Cameron and Amberber earned the right to represent
Ontario in the Yukon at the Canada Games in March.

In the Senior Division, “Gorgeous” Andre Gorges (141
lbs.) won three bouts (over Ottawa’s Claude Makouka,
Cornwall’s Tony Luis and London’s Yordan Mateo) en
route to capturing his second Provincial Title, while
Alison “The Cat” Hunter (132 lbs.) earned her third
Ontario Championship with wins over St. Catharines
Jenn Turner and Hamilton’s Alanna Rabley. Hunter and
Gorges will join stablemate and National Team member Katie “Silence” Dunn at the Canadian Championships in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec in January.

Finally, in the Cadet Division (119 lbs.), Ali “Junior” Youssef defended his title from last year,
out-pointing Bramalea’s Martin Halibus to earn the
right to return to the Canadian Championships. The
Cadet Nationals are in St. Catharines in February.

Border City’s “Gentleman” Jim Larkin (152 lbs.) and
Don “Ducky” Willis (201+ lbs.) both won bronze medals for their efforts, while Colin “The House” Sangster (201+ lbs.) was eliminated in the preliminaries.
