Wladimir Klitschko: Business as
Usual..by David Pambianchi
(NOV 12) Last night New Yorkers might have thought they were in the
Ukraine as the crowd of the upcoming World Championship bout between
Wladimir “Dr. Steel Hammer” Klitschko and Calvin “Boxing Banker” Brock
roared to a Madison Square Garden madhouse.
U.S.A. and Russian chants battled this Veterans Day, but the fight
remained relatively uneventful due to the boxers clinching. Overall,
Brock held his own with left hooks against Klitschko’s straight lefts
for the first four rounds of a schedule twelve round bout. The fifth
round looked to be a repeat of the first four until Klitschko landed two
hard rights that foreshadowed what lay ahead.
While Wladimir continued to connect and score better, he developed a
nasty cut over his left eye. Constantly tied up in knots, Wladimir could
not get a clear right hand contact on Calvin, and they once wrestled
right down to the mat in the 6th round.
Two minutes, ten seconds into the seventh round, the “Dr.” caught the
“Banker” with the “Steel Hammer,” a hard right that sent the undefeated
Brock helpless to the floor. The referee stopped the bout and Wladimir
Klitschko won a TKO and successfully defended his World Championship
Title. |
