AREA BUSINESS TO HOST “INDEPENDENCE” OPEN WORKOUT

(JULY 6) Merrillville, IN.- Indiana State Middleweight Champion Jimmy “The Fighting Schoolteacher” Holmes and the warriors of “Independence,” the next boxing spectacular from Octavius James/One IN A Million Inc., will face their fans in an open workout at the Roselawn, In., IGA Store, 5916 East S.R. 10, in Demotte, IN on Sat., July. 8th at 3 p.m.

Days later on July 14th at the Radisson Hotel @ Star Plaza in Merrillville, IN, Holmes (13-0-1, 7 KO) will defend his State title against Former Canadian Middleweight Champion Brooke Wellby (32-16-3, 10 KO's), with Ruben “The Modern Day Warrior” Galvan (25-9-2, 9 KO's) returning to the ring for the CO-Main event.

“Independence” will also feature Jermaine “Too Sweet” White (13-1, 6 KO's). Former Indiana State Lightweight Champion Johnny “Kid One In A Million” Novak (17-1, 6 KO's), preparing for a possible bout with Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., later this year and Derrick “Superman” Findley (4-1, 3 KO's) will round out the card.

Holmes, an elementary school teacher, brings more than a championship belt to the Roselawn/Demotte area, said Tim Myers, owner of the Roselawn IGA and host of the July open workout event.

“What Jimmy does in the ring is important to all of us, and what he does for a living, working as a teacher, means a lot to our community, so people really want to come out and support him and the work he does,” Myers said. “He's given us a lot to be proud of.”

Myers also said his IGA store will sponsor a cook-out for fans, and everyone will be welcomed to food and refreshments.

In the rough-and-tumble sport of boxing, that kind of hometown support is a tremendous boost for a professional fighter, especially one preparing the fight of his career, said Octavius James, CEO of One In A Million Inc.

“There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Jimmy is a good fighter and champion, and he'll need all of his skill and experience when he faces Wellby,” James said. “That kind of support is also excellent for the rest of our fighters, knowing they'll have sports fans everywhere rooting for them.”

Tickets for “Independence” are on sale now, starting at $25. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the first bout will be at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Star Plaza Box Office 219-769-6600 or through any Ticket Master 312-559-1212 or www.ticketmaster.com
