LANGEL'S, SLUGFEST "06" TO FIRE UP
FIGHT FANS AT WEIGH-INS
HIGHLAND, IN.- The owner of LANGEL'S Pizza, 2833 Highway Ave., one of
Northwest Indiana's most popular restaurants, said he expects another
capacity crowd as his team hosts the official weigh-ins at 7 p.m. on
Feb. 23rd for Octavius James/One In A Million Inc. “Slugfest 2006.”
“We're known around the region as a sports fan destination, and hosting
One In A Million's Weigh-ins has drawn some amazing crowds, said Rodney
Langel of his restaurant and lounge. “These shows bring out some of our
biggest crowds of the year.”
The “Slugfest” will be held the following day, Feb. 24th, at the
legendary Hammond Civic Center, 5825 Sohl, home of some of the area's
greatest boxing moments. While seats remaining are limited for the
event, starting at $25, event officials on Sunday said ticket sales have
been strong, and “Slugfest 2006” may become another sold-out show.
Doors for “Slugfest 2006” open at 7 p.m., and the first bout will be at
8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Civic Center Box Office 219-853-6378
and all Ticket Master locations 312-559-1212 or www.ticketmaster.com
The “Slugfest 2006” card promises memorable moments, as Hammond's own
IN.B.A. State Lightweight Champion Johnny Novak 14-1 (6 KO's) defends
his title before his hometown fans, and the hugely popular light
heavyweight Nick Cook 13-1 (7 KO's), returns to the ring. Also, ring
veteran and Hammond native Guy Solis 11-6 (6 KO's) will climb into the
ring for the last fight of his winning career by appearing for the first
time at the Civic Center.
