Joshua Clottey Headlines ‘Broadway Boxing’ at Turning Stone

(SEPT 30) Some marquee match-ups are lined up as the “Broadway Boxing” series comes to the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort and Casino on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The night of action will be taped for rebroadcast on the Madison Square Garden Network, Fox Sports Net New England, Comcast Sportsnet and HDNet.

In the Main Event, world-ranked Welterweight Joshua Clottey (26-1, 18 KOs) of the Bronx will take on Detroit’s Marlon Thomas (35-5-1, 21 KOs). Clottey, a native of Ghana, now trains with his older brother Emmanuel at the famed Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn. Joshua, the current NABC and African Welterweight Champion, is ranked second in the world by the WBC and fifth by the WBO. Clottey and Thomas are scheduled for ten rounds.

The evening’s co-feature is a ten round battle of jr. welterweights; Jeffery Resto of the Bronx (20-2, 14 KOs) and Tomas Barrientes (27-8, 17 KOs) of Mercedes, Texas. Resto -- who has fought in front of the cameras for ESPN, ESPN2 and Telefutura -- is probably best known for his TKO victory over former world champion Livingstone Bramble in 2002. Barrientes is a respected veteran who entered the pro ranks more than fifteen years ago, fighting primarily in the Lone Star State.

The under card includes Buffalo Jr. Welterweight Hector Alejandro (10-2, 7 KOs) and Jr. Welterweight Michael Warrick (18-3, 11 KOs) of Landover, Md. Their opponents will be announced at a later date.

Turning Stone Resort and Casino is the title sponsor of the Broadway Boxing series, which is held in conjunction with DiBella Entertainment.

Tickets -- priced at $25, $35, $45 and $75 -- are available by calling the Showroom box office at 361-SHOW or toll-free at 1-877-833-SHOW Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased at any Ticketmaster location or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
