Ailing, Title Defense Against Mabuza Postponed
NEW YORK (Sept. 26, 2005) – The International Boxing Federation (IBF)
bantamweight title fight between champion Rafael Marquez and IBF No. 1
contender Silence Mabuza, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, was
postponed Monday when promoter Gary Shaw informed Showtime that Marquez
was suffering from the flu.
This bantamweight world title fight has been rescheduled for SHOWTIME
CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING’s Nov. 5 event at Caesars Tahoe, which will be
headlined by Jeff Lacy as he defends his IBF/IBO super middleweight
titles against Scott Pemberton.
Saturday’s heavyweight fights on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING remain
intact. James “Lights Out’’ Toney (68-4-2, 43 KOs) will make his eagerly
awaited return to the ring when he defends his International Boxing
Association (IBA) crown against Dominick “The Southern Disaster’’ Guinn
(25-2-1, 18 KOs). In the co-feature, IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd
(38-2-1, 20 KOs) will defend against mandatory challenger DaVarryl
Williamson (22-3, 18 KOs).
Saturday’s SHOWTIME doubleheader begins at 9:15 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on
the west coast).
