“Knockouts at Coushatta” Schedules DeMarcus Corley For Main Event
(SEPT 10) Kinder, LA—The main event at “Knockouts at Coushatta IX” will
feature the flamboyant former world light-welterweight champion DeMarcus
“Chop Chop” Corley. He will replace the injured William Joppy, a former
three-time world champion, on the main event fight card at Coushatta
Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana. William Joppy’s management team
informed Bayou Promotions and Coushatta Casino Resort that Joppy has
sustained an injury that will prohibit him from fighting as scheduled in
Coushatta’s September 17 professional boxing event.
“We are fortunate to have secured “Chop Chop” Corley as our new main
event fighter—he’s fast, he’s flashy, and he fights like a tiger in the
ring. It’s going to be a super exciting show, a real boxing
spectacular,” said Nora Popillion, Events & Promotions Manager at
Coushatta Casino Resort.
The co-main event will feature José Diaz (7W-3KO’s) from Houston, Texas.
The fight card will also include Genaro Alarcon (Houston, Texas) and
Akondaye Fountain (Houston, Texas). Special guests at the press
conference and weigh-in on September 16 will be former heavyweight
champion Evander “Real Deal” Holyfield, current WBA lightweight champion
Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, and well-known boxing promoter Freeda George
Foreman. These three boxing superstars are also scheduled to make an
appearance at “Knockouts at Coushatta IX” September 17 in The Pavilion
at Coushatta.
Boxers’ weigh-in and press conference will be held 3:00pm Friday,
September 16, in Gumbeaux’s Sports Bar, inside the casino. The boxing
event will be held in The Pavilion at Coushatta. Tickets on sale in
casino gift shop, or purchase by phone at 1-800-584-7263, ext. 7817.
