Nephew
Demetrius Hopkins to Headline August 4th Fight Card
(JULY 29) PHILADELPHIA-. Former undisputed middleweight champion Bernard
Hopkins, President of Golden Boy Promotions East, is ready to host the
first official show of the east coast division and the start of a
multi-event alliance between Hopkins, his partner Oscar de la Hoya and
Golden Boy Promotions with the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic
City, New Jersey.
“I am extremely excited to introduce Golden Boy East and put on our
first show,” said Hopkins. “We are committed to delivering quality
fights to the Borgata and the many fight fans, showcasing established
fighters as well as young and upcoming prospects. Golden Boy East will
be the Gold Standard when it comes to action, excitement and
entertainment in the ring!”
The August 4th fight card will feature Hopkins’ nephew, undefeated
welterweight Demetrius Hopkins (19-0-1) vs Paul Delgado (14-5-1) in the
evening’s main event. In addition the six bout fight card will showcase
Larry Mosley (13-1) versus Alexis Division (16-1) for the NABF
Middleweight Championship. Olympian Rock Allen will be making his pro
debut. The fight will take place at the Borgata, one of the preeminent
casinos on the east coast, and shown live on HBO Latino. This will mark
the beginning of a series of events that will take place at the casino
as part of the new relationship between companies.
“For a young company, it didn’t take us long to make a statement by
forming this new relationship,” said Hopkins. “But I just think that it
is really a testament to the excellent reputation of Golden Boy
Promotions and our leading position in the sport of boxing.”
Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins are firmly committed to
reestablishing boxing as one of the top sports in the United States and
have demonstrated this since forging their partnership last November. De
La Hoya, “The Golden Boy”, is a former Olympic Gold Medallist and
multi-division world champion; Hopkins, “The Executioner”, is the
long-reigning undisputed middleweight champion, who holds the all-time
record for most successful middleweight title defenses. They have both
made their marks outside the ring as well.
Hopkins, who made it to the top by doing it ‘his way’, has battled for
fighters’ rights as hard outside the ring as he fights inside of it,
appearing before Congress and using his status as a world champion to
make known the injustices suffered by those who lace up the gloves.
"Bernard Hopkins is one of the best fighters in recent history,” said De
La Hoya. “His vision for the future of boxing and his deep love and
respect for our sport will make him a huge success as a promoter.”
De La Hoya is a true crossover success who has made a successful entry
in the business world while still making a concerted effort to give back
to the community. "Oscar is the man with the Golden touch,” said
Hopkins. “He has surrounded himself with a solid team and has made his
mark already as a promoter of choice for current and future stars. Our
combined knowledge of boxing and business will be available to our
fighters to help them to further their careers and lives.”
Hopkins and De La Hoya know that together they will make Golden Boy
Promotions known as the company built by the stars for the benefit of
the sport and the millions of boxing fans from around the globe.
Together, they’re an unbeatable team.
