Kimball
joins New England Ringside staff
WOBURN, Mass. (June 25, 2005) - Award-winning boxing writer George
Kimball has joined the New England Ringside staff as a regular
contributor to its magazine and radio show.
Kimball, who recently retired from the Boston Herald after 25 years of
service, has covered 343 world title fights since 1972. Among the many
awards he has received is the prestigious Nat Fleischer Award for
Distinguished Boxing Journalism in 1985, as well the 2001 Boxing
Writer's Association of America for Best Column and Best News Story.
"I'm leaving the grind of daily journalism," George said, "but it would
be hard to walk away from boxing cold turkey, and this is a nice fit.
I'll be at ringside covering fights for New England Ringside Magazine. I
think the magazine is a terrific addition to the local boxing scene,
with the potential to be even better, and I'm looking to being part of
that growth. I've been a guest on the radio show enough times to know
that they're a fun hard-working bunch of guys. In three-and-a-half
decades around the sport, I've sort of accidentally become a walking
repository of boxing BS, so I should fit right in there, too."
Over the years Kimball has written about boxing for The Ring, Boxing
Illustrated, Fight Game, and The Irish Times.
"We're thrilled to have George Kimball joining New England Ringside,"
New England Ringside president Rick Brutti said. "George is one of the
most respected boxing writers in the business and he adds instant
credibility to our company."
New England Ringside is unique, multi-faceted boxing operation that
encompasses promotion, management and media. New England Ringside's
interests include a monthly magazine, weekly radio shows, web site (www.newenglandringside.com),
www.fightography.com and a promotional division, NER Promotions. Its
ultimate goal is to help bring boxing back to its former prominence and
develop boxing to the same level as mainstream sports.
