Signs Wright
(MAY 26) TACOMA - Brian Halquist Productions has signed light
middleweight prospect Walter “2 Guns” Wright to a promotional
contract, Halquist Productions president Brian Halquist announced on May
25.
Wright (6-1-0, 3 kos), from Seattle, has won five straight fights after
losing his pro-debut to Matt O’Brien. “I’m really excited to have a
promoter”, Wright said. “Now I can concentrate on boxing.” And
concentrate he did with a decisive win over Darnell Boone on ESPN2’s
Tuesday Night Fights last evening. The judges scored the fight 79-73,
78-74 and 80-72. Walter and Darnell fought the eight-round semi-main –
the first eight rounder for both fighters but that didn’t seem to faze
Walter. Fighting at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights,
Washington, the fight went the distance with Walter dominating the
entire fight.
This is BHP’s fourth signing this year. “We are ecstatic to have Walter
in our promotion family” Halquist said. “We tried to sign Walt when he
turned pro, it took a little longer than we thought, but it’s over now
and we can get down to the business of fighting”. Wright had a stellar
amateur career before turning pro and his pro career will be just as
stellar!
Walter Wright joins Kenny Ellis (34-6-2, 23kos), David Torres (9-0-0,
7kos), Kevin Johnson (7-0-1, 4kos) and rookie Roger Cantrell (1-0) who
made his pro-debut on May 14th at the Emerald Queen Casino.
