Juan Laporte's Gym (UTBANY, Inc.) honors a true hero of the Boricua
community
(MAR 27) On Friday, April 15th, 2005, at the
Juan Laporte's Boxing Gym, 700 Elton Ave. 2nd Floor
718-585-6753, Out of "El Barrio" comes forth a new warrior, seeking to
prove himself on the frontlines of boxing, his adopted motto " Hasta la
victoria siempre!" (-Ché Guevara)
“El Chamaco” who campaigns at the red hot jr. welterweight level is not
only an extremely talented fighter, but a very grounded and focused
young man who sees himself as the torch bearer for Spanish Harlem and
it’s supportive and boxing-savvy community.
Edgar began his career on the island, under the tutelage of Felix
Trinidad senior, training along side Felix ‘Tito’ Trinidad, Fres Oquendo
and the rest of the 1999-2001 Trinidad faction. The young Santana found
himself in an enviable spot as he learned the ropes from some of the
best in the sport and he soaked up as much knowledge and insight as he
could. Edgar’s career took off with a victory in November of 1999 and
heated up in 2000, scoring four consecutive victories in the year alone.
Featuring Sparring Exhibitions by: Juan Laporte's Boxing Team, Webster
Police Atlethic League, and Bronxchester Boxing. Many Special
Guests!
