Card set for “Battle at the Boat 86”!
March 28, 2012
Halquist Productions has finalized all bouts
for “Battle at the Boat 86”. The card
takes place Saturday evening at the Emerald
Queen Casino in Tacoma and tickets are available
by going to Ticketmaster.com or calling the
casino box office at 1-888-831-7655.
Headlining the card is a ten round lightweight
showdown between Fort Worth, TX’ Jose Hernandez
and Kenyan Peter Oluoch. Both men fought tough
competition and gave highly favored opponents
all they can handle. Between Oluoch’s 9,000 mile
journey to Tacoma and Hernandez’ insistence on
fighting toe-to-toe, this match-up already has
plenty of interest. Crowd favorite and
retired Marine Nate Serrano, 3-1 (1 KO), of
Yakima, WA looks to get back in the winners
circle when he challenges 6’2 Nick Balestra in a
six round welterweight contest. Serrano, the
area’s most popular fighter, lost his most
recent bout and will need to be on his A game to
emerge victorious. California native
Lisette Medal, 5-1-1, and “Battle at the Boat”
veteran Sarah Pucek, 4-1-1, meet in a five
rounder, while highly touted Ray Lampkin Jr.,
Isaac Tadeo and William Fernandez all make their
pro debuts in separate bouts.
Internationally known actor, radio show host and
personality Danny Bonaduce is serving as the
master of ceremonies throughout the evening.
Doors open at 6 pm and the first fight takes
place at 7.
Micky Ward - Dickie Eklund UK Tour Promo
Video Released
March 27, 2012
Nina C’s Touch Glove Promotions today
released the promotional video for the upcoming
May Bank Holiday weekend mini UK tour by the
real life subjects of the box office hit movie
‘The Fighter’, ‘Irish’ Micky Ward and his half
brother Dickie Eklund. Micky, who was
played by Mark Wahlberg in the movie, has stated
that he is relishing returning to the UK,
the first time being when he challenged, and
beat, Liverpool’s Shea ‘The Shamrock Express’
Neary, at Olympia in Kensington in March 2000,
to capture the World Boxing Union Light
Welterweight title. Whilst without doubt a
magnificent victory, especially so when you
consider Neary had successfully defended his
title five times since beating Darryl Tyson to
lift the title in October 1996, Micky is better
known as one of the protagonists, the other the
late Arturo Gatti, in the greatest trilogy of
fights of all time. Incidentally Mark
Wahlberg, accompanied by Micky and Dickie,
stated at the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards last
year “We left out the Arturo Gatti fights for a
reason... because that’s for ‘Fighter 2.”
Hopefully this means the sequel should be
hitting the silver screen in the very near
future. That aside, back to Micky and
Dickie’s upcoming visit, whilst here in the UK
the boys will be undertaking three ‘Audience
With’ appearances, the first takes place at the
Hilton Metropole in London, on Saturday the 5th
May, then the pair will make the short trip to
the Crown Plaza in Maldon, Essex for their
second appearance on Sunday 6th May and then
finally the boys will be at the Priestfield
Suite in Gillingham, Kent on Monday 7th
May.

Garcia Wins
over Antwone Smith who did more
"Barking" than "Fighting"...
March 24, 2012
by Bill Rivas
(MAR 24) Last night on ESPN's “Friday
Night Fights” televised show, in Pharr, Texas,
Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia (30-3, 21 KOs) and
“The Truth” Antwone Smith (21-3-1, 12 KOs)
fought in a 10-round main event on that show.
Have you ever heard a dog that had a continuous
and annoying "bark" that just would not shut up?
Well that is what it sounded like for most of
the 10 rounds that these two fought. This bout
had to be one of the most irritating men's bouts
that I sat through in a long time while watching
these two fight. Somehow, Smith apparently has
it in his head that if he makes “barking sounds”
every time he throws a punch that it must have
some magical power or something…but for the
first time I literally wanted to mute the
channel until the longer-than-life 10-rounder
was over. Garcia did not seem to be phased
by the screechy sounds throughout the fight, and
he won by unanimous decision. He may need a
hearing test after that long enduring ordeal
though.

out Miguel "Mickey" Roman (37-10, 28 KOs) in the fifth round. The

Arena Nottingham on May 26 is racing to a
sell-out after over 5,000 tickets were sold in
the first 48 hours. The Cobra aims to

Tickets went on sale at 2pm on Monday when Froch

boxing event moved up one day to take
place on April 13th!
March 22, 2012
David Coldwell and Eddie Hearn would like to
announce that ‘The Big Bang’ boxing show
headlined by Tony Bellew vs. Danny McIntosh will
be moved from its original date of Saturday
April 14 2012 to one day prior on Friday April
13 2012, to avoid a clash with the potential
all-Merseyside FA Cup semi-final. The event will
still take place at Liverpool’s Echo Arena and
doors will now open at 6.30pm. David
Coldwell, promoter of Coldwell Boxing, issued
this brief statement earlier this afternoon.
“Due to Liverpool going through and the
possibility of an all-Merseyside FA Cup
semi-final, we know this is the only option.
“It’s a fantastic fight with a strong undercard
but when it comes to football, you can't win.
“Many of Tony's fans are Everton fans, many of
the undercard boxer's fans are Liverpool fans
and they all would have been disappointed to
miss the show but now they can potentially
attend both events. “Adam Smith and Sky
Sports have really got behind this show and have
worked with us in order to secure another date
for broadcast so I'm delighted that nothing has
changed in that respect.” PLEASE BE ADVISED

Showdown Tops “Battle at the
Boat 86”!
March 15, 2012
(MAR 15) Lightweights Jose Hernandez
and Peter Oluoch will meet March 31, 2012,
in the ten round main event of Halquist
Productions’ “Battle at the Boat 86”. The
card takes place at the Emerald Queen Casino in
Tacoma and tickets are available on

office at 1-888-831-7655. Dubbed as “Loco”
for his fearlessness inside the squared circle,
Hernandez, 12-5-1 (5 KO’s), is consistently
fighting top-notch competition. Spending much of
his career in his opponents’ backyards,
Hernandez lost a number of controversial
decisions and the six fights he did not win came
against fighters with a combined record of
85-4-1. The Fort Worth, TX native also defeated
contender Noe Bolanos and prospect Aaron Garcia,
knocking out the latter in 5 rounds to capture
the WBC Youth title back in 2009. Oluoch,
who’s traveling more than 9,000 from Nairobi,
Kenya for his American debut, fought 17 of his
18 bouts in Africa. At 11-5-2 (6 KO’s), Oluoch
went the distance with contenders Justin Juuko,
Rustam Nugaev and Bethuel Uushona. In the
co-featured bout of the evening, retired Marine
turned wildly popular welterweight Nate Serrano,
3-1 (1 KO), of Yakima, WA faces Sacramento CA’s
Nick Balestra, 2-1-1 (1 KO), in a six rounder.
Serrano is coming off a controversial majority
decision loss to Roberto Crespo in January. Also
appearing on the undercard are fan favorites
Sarah Pucek, William Fernandez, Beau Hamilton
and Isaac Tabedo. Doors open at 6 pm and
the opening bell is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Roy

March

by Bill Rivas
(MAR 14) In the latest news on former boxer
Roy Jones, Jr., he has just come out with a
"Rap", just recently released a song in tribute
to the ACC Champion Seminoles. In the
Orlando Sentinel they wrote, "The Olympian who

necessary to “get the boys hyped up.” Last fall,
before FSU’s football team began its season,
Jones was seen at the Al Dunlap practice fields
taking in a preseason workout."
Team Kovalev
upset with Square Ring for 'protecting
Sillakh'
March 14, 2012
BIG BEAR -- Team Kovalev blames Square Ring
for a verbally agreed upon NABF title
fight between unbeaten light heavyweights,
challenger Sergey Kovalev and defending champion
Ismayl Sillakh, to fall apart due to a
contractal dispute. Sillakh-Kovalev, according
to Kovalev's manager Egis Klimas, had been
approved as the main event for a proposed April
27tht ESPN Friday Night Fights show in Atlantic
City. "It would have been special having two
Russian-born fighters headlining an ESPN card,"
Klimas said. "I understand that it was quickly
approved because everybody in boxing knows it
would have been a very good fight. We agreed to
everything, including short money, to step-up
and fight Sillakh on national television. I have
a lot of respect for Ismayl as a fighter but his
people are doing him a disservice. Everything
was good on both sides but, right before Square
Ring sent me a contract, I learned from the
matchmaker about there being options on my
fighter if he won. I would have agreed to a
rematch if Sergey won a decision, but I wouldn't
be doing my job if I gave them four options
written in the contract. They couldn't lose
either way if I signed that contract."
"This is just another example of a promoter
protecting its fighter, which is exactly what's
wrong with boxing today," an irate Klimas added.
"Sillakh's NABF title defense is overdue and
they sent out an email to a lot of top light
heavyweights looking for a fight. We accepted
the challenge but then they put four options in
the contract. They can't have it both ways. If
Sillakh is the best light heavyweight in the
world, somebody that no other top light
heavyweight will fight, as they claim, why do
they need four options on my fighter? I can see
putting a rematch clause in the contract. I
asked John Wirt (President of Square Ring) why
he put four options in the contract and he said
to protect his fighter and company. I guess they
aren't really sure Sillakh can beat Kovalev."
Kovalev is a promotional free-agent who, based
on recent conversations conducted by Klimas, has
offers on the table from a few major promoters
to sign an exclusive contract.

opportunity to fight "Superman" without
even inquiring about the purse.
Uruguay-native Gonzalez, who lives in

Badou
Jack "The Ripper" Won by decision against Grover Young
March 12, 2012
Last Wednesday, undefeated super middleweight Badou Jack "The
Ripper" (10-0, 8 KOs) continued his march up the professional ranks
with a solid six-round unanimous decision (scores of 60-54, 59-55
and 58-56) over Tennessee's Grover Young (6-6-1, 3 KOs).
Fighting on the undercard of the sold-out Broadway Boxing event at
BB Kings Blues Club & Grill in Midtown Manhattan, the 28-year-old
prospect showed off his fearsome body attack and a strong array of
punches during a rare opportunity to go the distance. To his credit,
Young hung tough, absorbing the fearsome blows of Jack, the former
Olympian and six-time Swedish National Champion. "The six opponents
to beat Grover Young have only one loss combined. We knew he was
going to push Badou a little harder than his previous opponents and
we're very happy with the results. Badou kept to the gameplan and
showed off the terrific skills he can rely on when he has to," said
Jack's co-promoter, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing (Jack is
co-promoted by Warriors Boxing and DiBella Entertainment). According
to Margules, the Badou Jack express is travelling at the perfect
speed for its destination of a world championship. "He's not
going to knock everyone out the way he has been, so this fight was
great for his development. Badou can box when he needs to and has
more than one dimension to his game. This was a good test for him
and he passed with flying leather." Badou Jack is scheduled to
make his ShoBox debut on May 11. Opponent and venue to be announced
shortly.
