Former world champion Alejandro Berrio Back on right track
fighting for Boxing 360
February 28, 2011
NEW YORK – Former IBF super middleweight champion Alejandro “Naco” Berrio, the Colombian power puncher now living in New Jersey and fighting for Boxing 360, fought last Saturday night for the first time in North American since losing his title in 2007. Berrio (32-5, 29 KOs), who has won his last six fights, stopped 3-time world title challenger Antwun “Kid Dynamite” Echols (32-16-4, 28 KOs) in the third round of their fight in Grand Island, Nebraska. “We believe Alejandro Berrio can become world champion once again,” Boxing 360 Founder and CEO Mario Yagobi said. “This was the next step for him on his way back to the top. We want to keep him busy and move him into a world title shot position.” Berrio’s most notable victories came against previously unbeaten and present WBO titlist Robert Stieglitz four years ago by third-round TKO for Stieglitz’ IBF belt, and then 22-0-2 Yusaf Mack – fighting Otis Griffin March 4 in an IBF light heavyweight elimination bout -- who Alejandro put to sleep in the sixth round nearly five years ago. Berrio also sent 2-time world title challenger Syd Vanderpool into retirement via a ninth-round stoppage in 2005. Berrio’s first title defense against 20-0 Lucian Bute in the challenger’s backyard, Montreal, was unsuccessful. “I wasn’t properly prepared to fight Bute that night,” Berrio noted. “I’m coming back strong and want another shot at him or any of the other champions.” Boxing 360 director of boxing Bob Duffy added, “Berrio is back on the right track. He’s living and training in New Jersey with a new lease on his boxing career. A few more fights and he’ll be ready to fight any super middleweight in the world.”

The New Jersey native Hanks, who made his pro-debut on a DeGuardia promoted card, now looks to continue his march towards a heavyweight world title under the Star banner. "Ever since Joe made his pro-debut with us I have kept a close eye on him," stated DeGuardia. "Right from the start you could see that he had a lot of raw talent and power, to go with his great size. Joe has grown and improved from each fight, and we feel that he will only continue to do so as begins to make the transition from hot prospect, to a true top-ten contender." Hanks agent Michael Borao agrees, "I see Joe distinguishing himself from all other heavyweight prospects and breaking into the world ratings within the next 12-18 months. We are happy to have Star Boxing on board, helping Joe on his journey to a world title." After having his first three fights as a pro, two of which were on Star Boxing cards, in New York, Hanks took his show out West and has recorded his last twelve victories while fighting in the state of California. Now DeGuardia, who regularly stages events throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, is looking to further develop Hanks home fan-base back on the East Coast. The former amateur star consistently tagged Herrera with a plethora of punches to both the body and head, while displaying solid defensive reflexes to avoid many return shots. Herrera hung in tough and never stopped fighting until a vicious right hook from Perez badly staggered him. A follow up onslaught forced Referee Ramon Pena to halt bout at 1:36 of the 8th and final round. “I wasn’t looking for the knockout, I just planned to punish him over eight rounds,” said Perez, who appeared on Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate” series for the second straight time. “I saw the opening to stop him after I landed the right hook and the fans were happy to see the bout end early.” Perez, 12-0-1 NC (6 KO’s), also acknowledged that at 21, there’s plenty of room for improvement.

Toks Owoh - Journey Back To The Top Flight Begins On March
February 3, 2011
(FEB 3) Former IBF Inter-Continental Super Middleweight title challenger Toks Owoh is set to begin his second campaign for championship glory in earnest, albeit this time in the Cruiserweight division. His opponent, at the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘Unleash The Fury’ event at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, on Saturday 5th March 2011, will be former Southern Area Light Heavyweight Champion JJ Ojuederie. It was in 2000, after amassing a 16-1 record littered with TKO stoppages, that Toks earned the right to challenge American Glen ‘Road Warrior’ Johnson for the IBF Inter-Continental Super Middleweight Crown. Toks’ dream of a World title shot came to an abrupt end when he was stopped in the sixth round. Johnson’s unexpected victory catapulted him to World fame and embarked him on a journey that see him move to Light Heavyweight and capture the WBO Inter-Continental light heavyweight title, before securing IBA, IBO and IBF Light Heavyweight World crowns. Johnson became a super star and battled, and beat, such notables as Clinton Woods Antonio Tarver, Roy Jones, Daniel Judah and Yusaf Mack, whilst Toks on the other hand was left in the wilderness. No fights materialised for almost two years and when they did he had more or less been consigned to ‘journeyman’ status.Toks did win the first of these bouts, against Mondli Mbonambi in January 2002, but then followed three bad point losses, against Valery Odin, Eric Teymour and Ryan Walls. In the final fight of his first campaign, a four rounder against Paul Bonson at the Equinox Nightclub in London, Toks secured the win and then called it a day.Tickets for Unleash The Fury at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 5th March 2011 are on sale now - priced £35 (Unreserved) or £60 (Ringside). For tickets call: 07960 850645, book on-line at tkoboxoffice.com.

Jimmy has spent more than 50 years in boxing, he was a top-class amateur and professional boxer and has also been a manager and a promoter. However as a trainer Jimmy earned the reputation of being one of, if not, Britain's finest. Over the years Jimmy has prepared and guided such British Boxing luminaries as Nigel Benn, Chris Pyatt, Charlie Magri, Full Story
