Manny Pacquiao is one of the best boxers of all-time, cruising to championships in five different weight classes. Any time the potential retirement of Manny Pacquiao comes up, his financial situation immediately comes to mind. He has long been rumoured to be in dire financial straits, with his continued appearances in the ringsaid to be caused by the fact that he legitimately needs the funds. Bellport’s Alex “El Toro” Vargas Dream Leads to “Rockin Fight’s Third Visit February 19, 2019
While Long Island has had its share of dreams and boxing prospects, Bellport has its latest. While many new boxers talk about the major transition from the amateurs to the pro ranks, a large contingent of the newcomers often make a point of all the sacrifices they have to make, but Bellport, Long Islands Alex “El Toro” Vargas sees it in a different light. Just like the mainstream of the sports participants, absent a top echelon Mayweather / Andre Ward styled contract the 23-year-old fighting social worker, doesn’t see it that way. Diving in head first and taking it well beyond just keeping fit, training correctly and living healthily, it’s only after weeks of eight-hour days at the office, the added pressure of selling tickets, self-promotion, travelling to and from training and missing out on time with friends and family as large as an endeavor it is breaking into the paid ranks, already meeting his early challenge of the longer and additional rounds..Full Story
Will Free Streaming Take All of the Money Out of Pay Per View Boxing? February 10, 2019
On Fight Day, it only takes a few seconds typing into a search engine to find a bevy of links proclaiming to stream the fight for free. What's more - some of them actually work. The recent Pacquiao vs. Broner megafight was the latest victim of this stream sniping, but there was no news from either camp or the fight producer about having lost a substantial amount of money. One has to wonder, however: If fans can watch live boxing streaming for free, how long can the legitimate pay per view industry survive? Eventually, people will find the stream sniping links that work, and they will use them and tell friends about them. Once the technology is sound, taking down any individual stream sniper will not stop the show. Digital infrastructures can be proliferated with ease. Copycats will pop up with every new fight, and savvy snipers will have mirror streams on deck to go live as soon as the first stream is found and stopped.Full Story

How Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are dragging heavyweight boxing
towards a new golden era
October 18, 2018
The sport of boxing looks set to usher in a new golden era of heavyweight action, thanks to the three biggest names in division. Britain's Anthony Joshua and Tyslon Fury, plus American Deontay Wilder, have ascended to the top of the heavyweight tree. Each has a distinct personality, each has a remarkable career record, and all three together represent the best in heavyweight boxing since the dominant reigns of the Klitschko brothers. Back then fighting brothers Vitali and Wladimir vowed never to fight each other--a promise they made to their mother. It meant they dominated the heavyweight landscape, but also totally stifled the division. Their plodding, yet effective, fighting styles made for lengthy title reigns but delivered little in the way of true excitement. Now, with the Klitschko era a thing of the past, heavyweight boxing has a chance to regain some of its former glory, with Joshua, Fury and Wilder all set to play starring roles. Full Story

December 2017 Preview – a Fitting End to an Important Year November 22, 2017
In an age where many fight fans would bemoan the lack of a true colossus with the same invincibility of Tyson, Ali or Marciano, 2017 has represented the continuation of an encouraging trend. Back in August, Floyd Mayweather Jr broke the latter legend's long-standing 49-0 record but did so against an opponent making his professional boxing debut. For those who remain skeptical as to the true value of Mayweather v McGregor, there is some consolation in knowing that this year saw several other fighters get closer to the new 50-0 record. Nielsen and Markussen score KO victories to set up Danish mega-fight
September 13, 2015
Patrick Nielsen and Rudy Markussen both scored KO victories tonight at the Arena Nord in Frederikshavn to set up a Danish mega-fight later this year. The event was billed as ‘Collision Course’ with both men needing a victory to secure a blockbuster showdown, and the bitter rivals delivered with impressive performances against tough international opposition. Nielsen, the current WBA International Super Middleweight Champion, was first to fight, sending a clear message to Markussen with a convincing knockout victory over Samir Santos Barbosa. Nielsen took control of the fight from the opening round, working well behind his southpaw jab and proving too much for his outclassed opponent. A straight left sent Barbosa to the canvas in the second round, but the Brazilian was able to beat the count. In the fourth-round, Nielsen executed a perfect left hook to the liver, to ensure victory and a highly anticipated clash with his former teammate Markussen. ‘’I was pleased with my performance,’’ said Nielsen, who recorded his first KO victory since moving up to 168lbs earlier this year. ‘’It feels great to have got the stoppage. This is the first of many for me at super middleweight. From now on I’m only going to get better and better. ‘’I stuck to my game plan. I used my jab and looked for openings to unload my power punches. I thought I had him in the second but he beat the count and kept coming forward. But I found the opening in the fourth and hit him with a sweet shot to the liver. I knew there was no coming back from that. ‘’Now, I’m ready for the big fights. To me Rudy is just a stepping-stone on my way to challenge for World titles. He may have won tonight, but against me, he will taste defeat again and wish he never come out of retirement.’’ Markussen, who returned from a close to three-year absence from the ring, wasted little time in disposing of his Georgian opponent Ramazi Gogichashvili. Nicknamed the ‘Hard Hitter’, Markussen lived up to his alias by stopping Gogichashvili inside one round. ‘’It felt great to be back in the ring,’’ said Markussen. ‘’It took a lot of training and discipline to get in shape, and tonight, it paid off. I ruled the arena! Gogichashvili is not a bad fighter, and when he hit me, he hit me hard. The pressure was on but I delivered. He hit hard, but I hit harder. I’m still the ‘Hard Hitter’ and everyone knows it’s a big risk for Patrick to fight me.’’
SMITH AND SAVAGE GO TO WAR AT THE PARAMOUNT
September 13, 2015
Last night Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presented the 20th installmentof the popular "Rockin Fights" series at The Paramount in Huntington, NY and the card more than lived up to its title. Before a capacity crowd, fast rising Light Heavyweight Joe " The Irish Bomber" Smith Jr.,(Mastic, NY) took on veteran spoiler Dion Savage, (Flint, MI), in a scheduled 10 round Light Heavyweight match up. From the opening bell those in attendance knew they were in for an exciting fight as Smith and Savage freely traded punches. Savage showed he came to fight as he withstood an early assault from Smith before answering back with his own power punches. The pattern stayed the same until late in the 3rd round when a barrage of punches by Smith sent Savage sprawling throughthe ropes. Savage beat the count getting back in the ring and just as the bell sounded ending the round caught another hard right hand which had him on wobbly legs as he headed back to his corner. Savage recovered nicely and had a decent round 4 landing good shots on the ever charging Smith. The fight was turning into a battle of attrition as both fighters kept up a fastpace and both landed numerous hard shots on each much to the delight of the crowd. As the bell sounded for round 9 and as he did in round 1, Smith charged right at Savage throwing hard punches with both hands. Savage gamely tried to fight back but Smith finally overwhelmed Savage sending him to the canvas for the second time. Savage rose at the count of 8 and motioned Smith on as the crowd was whipped into a frenzy. Smith obliged and attacked relentlessly forcing the referee to call a halt to the fight at 2:25 of round 9. Smith improves to 19-1 16KO's while the ever so game Savage dropped to 12-8 6KO's. The undercard featured Jr. Lightweight Anthony Karperis who improves to (11-1 4KO's) knocked out Jose Morales (8-7 2KO's) with a vicious left hook to the body in round 3 of a scheduled 8 round bout. Local Featherweight Johnny Hernandez rebounded from his first loss by taking a unanimous 6 rounds decision over Hilario Medina in a fast paced fight. Ronica Jeffrey saw her record go to (14-1 1KO) as she fought her way to a 6 round decision over Celene Roman (5-3-1) in a Female Jr. Lightweight bout. After the fight Celine said "her speed was a problem, I am more of a power puncher, but I was unable to get her timing down" Courtney Pennington) won a hard fought majority decision over Rich Neves in a 6 round Jr. Middleweight fight. While Neves admitted he "wasn't able to use his jab enough and edge him out"

Brilliant Brand Takes WBF World Title From Donfack
August 10, 2015
Colombia’s Alexander Brand put on a brilliant performance in front of his local fans to take the World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Middleweight title from reigning champion Bernard Donfack from Germany on Sunday night, August 9, in Bogota. Donfack, making his second defense of the title he won in May 2014 with a stoppage of Argentinean Javier Alberto Mamani, seemed unaffected by fighting in hostile territory, and was dangerous throughout the entire bout, but Brand was always one step ahead in an almost flawless performance. The challenger outclassed, outworked and out-thought his foe in more or less every round, and, while Donfack came to fight and do everything in his power to hold on to his crown, Brand was just a level above in every department on the night. South African judge Clifford Mbelo scored the fight a 120-108 shut-out, and judges Sergio Sotelo from Mexico and Jorge Falco from Argentina both had it 119-109, giving Donfack one round on their cards. Referee in control of the action was Colombian Manuel Rodriguez Soler. With WBF President Howard Goldberg supervising from ringside, the new World Super Middleweight Champion improved his impressive record to 24-1 (19), his sole defeat a disputed decision against current WBC ruler Badou Jack, while Donfack travels back to Berlin at 22-12-3 (11). The fight was promoted by Hamir Gonzalez Ortega.
Sherman Williams & Marcus Upshaw Back in action this month August 9, 2015
MIAMI (August 9, 2015) - A pair of respected gatekeepers and noted road warriors, heavyweight Sherman "Tank" Williams and super middleweight Marcus "Arillius" Upshaw, will both be in crossroads fights this month, according to their manager, Si Stern, of SHS Boxing Management. Williams (37-14-2, 20 KOs), fighting out of Nassau, Bahamas, travels to Romania to take on Christian Hammer (17-4, 10 KOs), August 28, in the 10-round main event in Galati's hometown of Galati. Upshaw(17-4-4, 8 KOs), 35, will fight in his home state for the first time in 2 ½ years on August 15, when he faces undefeated Turkish prospect Bugra Oener (9-0-0, 3 KOs) at Wynwood Stadium in Miami, in a 10-round fight for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Interim Mediterranean super middleweight title. "These two fights are very big for both fighters," Stern remarked. "Sherman has a great opportunity to be back on top in the heavyweight division. He's very smart and very experienced. Marcus can get back on the winning track where he should be." Williams will be fighting in his eighth different country against Hammer, the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) European heavyweight champion. "I'm a Bahamian warrior," Williams explained why he fights so many opponents in their backyard. "By nature, in the Caribbean, we are known as pirates. I've traveled all my life. We have no borders, only waters to cross. Wherever I fight, I feel like it's my hometown of Nassau. This is the sixth different fight for me this year but the only one that's really happening. The others fell apart for one reason or another. I'm going to take advantage of this opportunity. I'll face adversity fighting in Romania for the first time but I'm going there with the intention of belting him from pillar to post. I'm going to take him out. I'm bringing my Conch punch (big overhand right), which is synonymous with the Bahamas, and people everywhere love it." Hammer, who has defeated familiar names such as Kevin Johnson and Danny Williams, is coming off a loss this past February to unbeaten Tyson Fury, in which Hammer retired after the eighth round in their WBO International title fight.

Antonio Tarver believes He is destined to be oldest World heavyweight champion
July 21, 2015
MIAMI (July 21, 2015) - Five-time world champion Antonio "Magic Man" Tarver (31-6, 22 KOs) honestly believes that he is destined to become the oldest world heavyweight champion in boxing history. Before he gets a world title shot against fellow 1996 Olympian Wladimir Klitschko, the universally recognized world heavyweight champion, Tarver realizes that he has to get past former two-time IBF champion Steve "USS" Cunningham (28-7, 13 KOs) in their 12-round heavyweight showdown August 14 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. WBA #9 Tarver vs. IBF #6/WBC #14 Cunningham is the main event on a Premier Boxing Champions series show airing live on Spike TV, the same network Tarver serves as its boxing color commentator. "I know my purpose will set me apart from some great champions," Tarver remarked. "I am supposed to be world heavyweight champion. I don't know how but I will be world heavyweight champion. I truly believe that it is my destiny. Cunningham can't stop me and neither can (Deontay) Wilder; he can't learn enough to beat me. I'll knock him out and get the one guy I really want to fight, Klitschko. When I beat him it'll be the greatest story in boxing history. All the disbelievers will have to believe in 'Magic Man!' "Three years ago, I was buried six-feet under but they forgot to put dirt on me. Champions have to have resolve. I could have quit a lot of times. My resolve will make me world champion once again. No fighter has ever struggled like me and overcoming those struggles will make me world champion again."
Price and Teper weigh-in ahead of European title showdown July 16, 2015
David Price (19-2, 16 KOs) and Erkan Teper (14-0, 9 KOs) took to the scales today ahead of their European Heavyweight title fight on Friday night at the MHP Arena in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Price, who tipped the scales at 113.1kg (17st 11lbs 1oz), looked in fine form as he attempts to wrestle the vacant European crown from the undefeated Teper, weighing in at 114.3kg (17st 13lbs 9oz), tomorrow night. ‘’I feel great,’’ said the former British and Commonwealth Champion. ‘’I’m calm, collected and ready to go. This is a good weight for me. I’ve come in a little lighter than my last fight, but I’ve had a longer camp so that’s to be expected. I honestly believe I’m in the best shape of my career. ‘’Now I just want to get in there and get the job done. I’m not worried about Teper, I just need to concentrate on what I’m doing. He’s a good boxer, he’s undefeated and has some decent wins on his record, but he’s never fought anyone like me. Mentally and physically, I couldn’t be better prepared. I’m 100% confident and ready to bring the belt home!’’

16 year-old German talent Bauer ready for ring
return on July 18
July 2, 2015
Germany’s youngest professional boxer, Leon Bauer (1-0, 1 KO) returns
to the ring on July 18 at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle on the
undercard of Arthur Abraham’s WBO World title defence against Robert
Stieglitz. Having got his professional career off to a flying
start with the first-round destruction of Kristof Mate, the 16 year-old
super middleweight can expect a tougher test in his second paid outing
against Misa Nikolic (20-35-2, 9 KOs) - a 37 year-old, 57 fight-veteran,
who is old enough to be Bauer’s father. ‘’We‘ve heard a lot about
Leon and we’re excited to see how he performs on the big stage against
such an experienced opponent,’’ said promoter Kalle Sauerland. As
an amateur, Bauer won both regional and national junior championships,
and had been tipped to join Germany’s Olympic team hoping to qualify for
Rio 2016. However the young fighter had plans of his own, and having
received special dispensation earlier this year, begun his professional
career with one goal in sight. ‘’I want to become world champion,’’
declared the teenage talent. One man with no doubts in the
Hatzenbühl-boxer’s ability is coach and father Bernd Bauer, who is
expecting his son to impress: ‘’I would not send my son into the ring if
I was not one hundred per cent convinced by his talents.’’ Bauer joins
fellow teenage star Vincent Feigenbutz in action on July 18. The 19
year-old Feigenbutz, who also made his professional bow at the age of
16, will be challenging for Interim WBA World Super Middleweight title
against Mauricio Reynoso. Manager Rainer Gottwald, who is credited with
discovering both fighters, is confident Bauer can follow in Feigenbutz’s
footsteps and take the super middleweight division by storm. ‘’Leon is a
boxing gem,’’ said Gottwald. ‘’He has everything needed to become a
great champion!’’

Hassan N'Dam promises world-class
performance Tomorrow night in Montreal vs. David Lemieux
June 19, 2015
MONTREAL (June 19, 2015) - Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) 160-pound
division champion Hassan N'Dam (31-1, 18 KOs) has promised a world-class
performance in tomorrow night's (Saturday, June 20) showdown with David Lemieux
(33-2, 31 KOs) for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight
title at the famed Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. A 2004 Olympian who
represented his native Cameroon, N'Dam is the IBF No. 1-ranked, mandatory
contender, who now fights out of France. Lemieux is ranked No. 4 in the world by
the IBF. "I promise a world-class performance tomorrow night in Montreal
against hometown favorite David Lemieux for the IBF middleweight world
championship," N'Dam said earlier today in Montreal. "I will adapt to whatever
style Lemieux brings. I can KO him in round one, or in any other round. He has
never fought anyone with my skill set. Lemieux is coming into the deep end and I
will prove he doesn't belong here. I will show his handlers that he doesn't
belong at the top tier of world-class boxing." N'Dam's victims, among the
more notables, include Max Bursk, Curtis Stevens, Fulgencio Zuniga, Giovanni
Lorenzo, Omar Weiss and Autandil Khurtsidze. "Hassan has had the best
training camp of his career and he's going to put on the performance of his life
tomorrow night," N'Dam's manager Gary Hyde added. "When he is crowned IBF world
middleweight champion, Hassan will be right in the mix of the most exciting
weight division in boxing. We are not happy with the appointment of a Canadian
judge and Canadian referee, but I have been assured by Quebec Commissioner
Michel Hamelin that they will do a good, honest job. I accept that this will be
the case. We have a world title to win and that is what we will do. Hassan will
be crowned world champion for the second time, against all odds, because he's
just too good."

(21-0-1, 7 KOs) of Queensland, Australia (via Kildare, Ireland), making the

favorite Kenny Abril (14-7-1, 7 KOs) of Rochester, New York. In the co-featured
bout, Canada's WBA #14-rated Tony "Lightning" Luis (19-3, 7 KOs) returns to the

Roberto Duran Ringside For WBF Doubleheader In Trinidad & Tobago
June 16, 2015
(JUNE
16) Living legend Roberto Duran will be a special ringside-guest
when Floyd Trumpet Productions in association with Goldeneye
Productions present a World Boxing Federation (WBF) doubleheader at
Skinner Park in San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago on Friday June 19.
Fighting for the vacant WBF Caribbean Light Heavyweight title,
hard-punching local favorite Kirt Sinette will take on undefeated
fellow countryman Nigel Edwards, in what on paper appears to be a
very intriguing match-up with potential to excite the fans. With
several regional titles already on his resume, Sinette enters this
fight as the more experienced boxer, with a professional record of
22-2 (18), including a 2011 stoppage victory over former British,
Commonwealth and European champion Howard Eastman.
Edwards on the other hand, will be in his first championship fight,
but has so far never tasted defeat, bringing an 8-0-1 (4) ledger,
and is reportedly hungry and determined to capitalize on the biggest
opportunity of his career, having waited patiently since his debut
in 2006. In the co-featured bout, Trinidad & Tobago´s Kertson
“Warrior” Manswell will attempt to resurrect his career as he
squares off with Mitchell Rogers from Guyana for the vacant WBF
Caribbean Heavyweight title. This will be their third time in the
ring together, with Manswell winning the two previous encounters.
Manswell is 24-10 (18) in the paid ranks, and is known for his
willingness to fight anybody, anywhere. So far he has come up short
in fights against some of the best in the world, including Deontay
Wilder, Bermane Stiverne, Mike Perez, Alexander Ustinov and Ruslan
Chagaev. Rogers lost his pro debut to Manswell in 2005, and a
rematch in 2011, but only two other opponents have otherwise managed
to beat him, while he has defeated eight foes to bring his record to
8-4 (5). He is coming off two victories at home in Guyana.
Fortuna decisions Vasquez:
WBA review judges agree
May 30, 2015
Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Javier Fortuna
(28-0-1, 20 KOs) decisioned Bryan Vasquez (34-2, 18 KOs) by scores of 116-112
and 117-111 twice to win the vacant WBA World super featherweight title. A
lean southpaw with power in both hands, Fortuna isn’t a perfect fighter. He
doesn’t throw straight punches. He doesn’t move his head. His hands dangle at
his sides. But he is athletic. He is fast. And his doggedness is off the charts.
Vasquez had his moments. He came into the fight as the guy who could box against
a guy who could punch. But Fortuna defied categorization. He fought on the
inside and outside. His looping punches found the mark. He wore down Vasquez bit
by bit, round by round, punch by punch. It was an exciting, all-action
fight. Vasquez is more rugged than refined tough and needs to return to the
drawing board. All Fortuna needs to do is keep on doing what he’s doing.
In an attempt to cover all the bases in this championship fight, the WBA hired
six anonymous professional judges to watch the fight live on Spike TV with the
sound muted. Their scores were entered after each round into a website
application and streamed in real-time to the WBA. All six review judges
scored the fight in favor of Javier Fortuna. One judge had it close, at 115-113.
While the other review judges scored it more comfortably for the winner.
Undefeated Super
Middleweight Derrick "Take It To The Bank" Webster back in
action on TONIGHT in Memphis
May 29, 2015
Memphis, Tennessee ( May 29, 2015)-- TONIGHT at the W.C. Handy Pavilion in
Memphis, Tennessee, undefeated Super Middleweight, Derrick "Take it to the Bank"
Webster will make his first start of 2015 when he takes on William Johnson in a
six-round bout that is part of a card that will be televised live on CBS Sports
Network. Webster is promoted by GH3 Promotions and Greg Cohen Promotions.
Webster of Glassboro, New Jersey has a record of 18-0 with 9 knockouts and has
not been sitting idle during the six months he has not been in the ring.
"Training has been great. We had some dates moved on us, so we stayed at home
for camp. We used a lot of different sparring partners and I have a new strength
and conditioning coach. I did a lot of new things such as running the bleachers,
some great ab work as well, " said Webster. Webster has been no stranger to
layoffs as guys are not running fast to face the 6'4" inch southpaw who has
displayed good boxing ability and power. "It frustrates me but I have been
dealing with it my whole career. I know I should be a lot further along but now
I have promoters and managers (D & D Management) that should help ease that
problem. So with that in mind, I can't wait to see what is to come." In
Johnson, Webster is fighting a guy with a pedestrian record but that was not by
choice. "It is hard to get up for this opponent. We had at least 12 guys
turn down the fight for one reason or another. There is nothing I can do to make
guys fight me. I am just going into this fight to get a win and start fighting
the upper echelon guys. I think I will come right back in July and we will be
fighting for some regional titles." "I appreciate the support. I love my
family and fans. This fight will end in a knockout. I am glad I can display this
on national television and the world will finally recognize what they have been
missing and that is that I am the best southpaw in boxing."

May 13, 2015
(MAY 13) Greek female fighter Areti Mastrodouka (9-0) sensationally captured three
World Titles on Saturday (9th May) against Spanish opponent Loli
Munoz (12-14-3) winning via unanimous points decision in her
hometown of Athens in front of a crowd of around 2000. London
based Mastrodouka, trained by Alec Wilkey at Poplar’s Lansbury
ABC, came away with the WBF, WIBF and GBU belts after an
exciting Super- Featherweight unification match up at
Panathinaikos FC Stadium Hall where the bout was staged. ‘The Master’ Mastrodouka appeared
to dominate the early exchanges of the bout by landing the
cleaner shots by countering the hard working Munoz. Both
fighters kept a high pace throughout which made for some good
viewing for the onlooking support and it was evident that Munoz

Jack Culcay (19-1, 10 KOs) is no stranger to success. In 2009, the
German talent captured gold at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in
Milan. Six years later, ‘Golden Jack’ will be attempting the same feat
in the paid ranks, when he faces Maurice Weber (21-1-1, 8 KOs) for the
Interim WBA World Light Middleweight title on Saturday night in
Frankfurt, Germany. ‘’Since I turned pro I’ve had only one
objective: to become world champion,’’ said Culcay. ‘’This is the moment
I’ve dreamed about, and on Saturday night that dream will become a
reality!’’ With legendary German coach Ulli Wegner in his corner, the 29
year-old insist there is no stopping him. ‘’Mr Wegner has a wealth of
experience. He knows exactly what I must do to claim the title and has
prepared me accordingly. With the winning mentality he has installed in
me, I already feel like I have one hand on the belt.’’ Training at
Berlin’s famous Max-Schmeling-Gym under the guidance of the 73 year-old
coach, Culcay believes he has had the perfect preparations for his world
title challenge. ‘’Mr Wegner has brought the fun back into boxing for
me,’’ said the former European champion. ‘’There is a tremendous team
spirit, training alongside other top pros like Yoan Pablo Hernandez, and
this has helped push me to the next level. I know boxing is an
individual sport and when the bell rings it’s all down to me, but I
honestly feel I could not have been better prepared.’’

Masternak: I will make ‘The Man Of Stone’
crumble on April 25
April 16, 2015
Mateusz Masternak (34-2, 24 KOs) has vowed to make ‘The Man of Stone’
Ruben Angel Mino (26-2, 26 KOs) crumble when the cruiserweights clash on
April 25 at the Columbia Hall in Berlin. Following an impressive
points victory over former cruiserweight king Jean-Marc Mormeck,
Masternak looks well on his way to a world title challenge. However
first, the Polish-puncher must overcome tough opposition from the Argentinian knockout artist Mino, a man who has never heard the final
bell, with his twenty-six victories and two defeats all ending in
stoppages. ‘’This is not an easy task for Mateusz,’’ reflects the
27 year-old’s coach Ulli Wegner. ‘’He will need to be on guard and
showcase his counter-punching ability to defeat a wild bull like Mino.’’
‘The Master’ knows he must follow Wegner’s instructions and has placed
his confidence in the legendary German coach. ‘’Mr. Wegner is a master
tactician, under his tutelage I’m able to play to my strengths more and
more,’’ said the former European champion, before offering a final
prediction on the outcome of his upcoming fight. ‘’On April 25, I will
make ‘The Man Of Stone’ crumble in the ring.’’ Masternak joins a
stacked card in the German capital. Tyron Zeuge (16-0, 10 KOs) tops the
bill with an IBF International Super Middleweight Championship defence
against former world title challenger Nikola Sjekloca (28-3, 8 KOs),
while German stars Enrico Koelling (16-1, 6 KOs), Karo Murat (26-2-1, 16
KOs) and Burak Sahin (6-0, 6 KOs) all return to action.
The real Khattab is back: Can't wait to
impress against Cospolite
April 15, 2015
Abdul Khattab (11-0, 3 KOs) promises another convincing performance
when he faces Howard Cospolite (11-4-1, 5 KOs) May 2 at Frederiksberg-Hallerne,
Copenhagen. “Cospolite looks like a guy who wants to get into a brawl,
but I will outsmart him and teach him a boxing lesson,” said Khattab
oozing self-confidence. “My two fights this year have gone from
one of my worst performances, to one of my best. In the last fight
people saw the real Khattab and that’s what you will see again at
Frederiksberg. Perhaps I will knock Cospolite out, but winning is
the most important to me. It's about my continuous development. I must
stay calm and be patient. I know it’s a cliché, but it’s important that
I don’t use the same force I did against Alexey Ribchev in February."
Against experienced Ribchev, Khattab surprisingly ran out of steam in
the last rounds. However, only weeks later Khattab outboxed Khutsishvili
with a career topping performance according to his coach and mentor,
former five-time world champion Mikkel Kessler.Team Sauerland present
the ‘Nordic Fight Night – Going For Gold’ on May 2 at the Frederiksberg-Hallerne
in Copenhagen. All the action will be broadcast live on Viasat channels
across Scandinavia (TV3/ TV3+/ TV3 Sport channels in Denmark, TV10 in
Sweden and Viasat 4/ Viasat Sport in Norway).
Ismael Barroso to Fight for Interim WBA
World Lightweight Championship Next Week
April 15, 2015
Greg Cohen Promotions proudly announces that on Saturday, April 18, unbeaten
southpaw slugger Ismael Barroso (17-0-2, 16 KOs) will face UK veteran Derry
Matthews (37-9-2, 20 KOs) for the Interim WBA Lightweight Championship.
The pair will meet at the Echo Arena in Matthews' hometown of Liverpool,
England, as the main event of a night of boxing presented by Frank Warren's
Queensberry Promotions. 31-year-old Barroso, one of the hardest punchers
in the division, hails from El Tigre, Venezuela, and was last seen making his
American television debut with an impressive TKO over Issouf Kinda. The
eye-opening victory won Barroso the NABO and NABA Lightweight Championships.
The fight against Matthews is being mandated by the WBA because of an ongoing
illness to current champion Richar Abril that has rendered him unable to train.
Abril will still be the "Champion in Recess." 31-year-old Matthews has
held a slew of European titles in his 12-year career. He will enjoy a distinct
advantage in experience over the cement-fisted South American. "I am
very excited Ismael is getting this opportunity and despite the short notice, he
is a tireless worker in the gym and will be more than ready. He is eager to join
Jorge Linares as a Venezuelan Lightweight World Champion," said Greg Cohen.
"Matthews is a good fighter, but there are really no answers to a fighter who
can hit as hard as Barroso. GCP will have another world champion in its roster
after Saturday night."

Yengoyan Ready For WBF World Title-Defense Against Zavec
April 8, 2015
(APR 8) Reigning World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Welterweight
Champion Sasha Yengoyan has arrived in Maribor, Slovenia where he will defend
his title at the Tabor Arena against former Welterweight World Champion (IBF)
Jan Zavec on Saturday night, April 11. Yengoyan, 31-1-1 (21), born in Armenia
but now residing and fighting out of Belgium, will be making his first defense
of the title he won last October when he impressively dominated and stopped then
champion Anderson Clayton from Brazil. Zavec, 34-3 (19), a big hero in his
native Slovenia, will be challenging for his first world championship since
losing the IBF Welterweight crown on an eye-injury to American Andre Berto in
2011, and is coming off two victories since a decision defeat to current WBA
World Welterweight Champion Keith Thurman in 2013. The defending champion has no
problem fighting in Zavec´s home-country, and sees it as another opportunity for
him to further establish his name on the world scene: “I know Zavec is a very
good boxer, a very respected name in the sport, and its an honor for me to fight
him. It will be a hard and good fight, but of course I expect to win, and doing
it in Maribor will be very nice. Maribor is a beautiful city.” Yengoyan,
who´s boxing idol is legendary former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, is
hoping that beating a big name such as Zavec will open new doors for him,
saying: “I am always aiming at going to the next level, and when I beat
Zavec I hope that it can lead to even bigger fights in the USA. He will not have
to run after me, I plan to be there, right in front of him, from the first
second to the last second, so it should be an exiting fight, and a great victory
for me.” Promoted by Tomaz Barada, the Sasha Yengoyan vs. Jan Zavec WBF
World Super Welterweight title fight will be televised live by TVSLO Sport, and
a sell-out crowd of around 4500 spectators is expected at the Tabor Arena in
Maribor.

Mzonke Fana New WBF Intercontinental Super Featherweight
Champion
March 23, 2015
Former two-time world champion Mzonke Fana captured the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Super Featherweight title on Sunday, March 22,
at the Mdantsane Indoor Centre in East London, South Africa, when he defeated
fellow countryman Koos Sibiya. In a close and competitive fight, Fana used
his straight punches to score points, especially his jab, and mostly
counter-punched, while Sibiya was the aggressor and tried to overwhelm his
veteran opponent by putting him under constant pressure. After twelve
rounds of boxing, in front of an enthusiastic crowd, the closeness of the fight
was confirmed with a split decision, when two of the scoring judges had Fana
ahead by 116-115 (Siya Vabaza & Siphiwo Mbini), while the third judge (Andile
Matika) saw it in favor of Sibya, 115-114. Referee was Eddie Marshall.
Fana (41), also known as The Rose of Khayelitsha, improved his record to 34-7
(14) since turning professional almost twenty-one years ago in March 1994. With
the victory, he could be in line to challenge WBF World Super Featherweight
champion Harmonito Dela Torre (14-0, 9 KOs) from the Philippines later this
year. Koos Sibiya, the reigning Gauteng provincial champion and undefeated
in his previous eight bouts, drops to 16-9-4 (1), but did himself proud in the
fight and deserves other big opportunities in the future. Also on
the card, Mfusi Maxhayi, 10-5-1 (5), lost his WBF Intercontinental Bantamweight
title on the scales when he failed to make weight for what was supposed to be
his second title-defense against Mxolisi Nombewu. Instead the title was
only at stake for Nombewu, entering the bout at 6-5-1 (4), but Maxhayi was much
too strong and won the fight when referee Alan Matakane stepped in to stop the
onslaught at 1:03 of the second round. Televised in South Africa by
SuperSport, the massive show which included five championship fights, was
promoted by Siphato Handi and his Mamali Boxing Productions.

Mothmora vs. Barakat For WBF
Intercontinental Title March 27
March 19, 2015
(MAR 19) After narrowly losing a majority decision for the French
national title against world class champion Karim Achour last November,
Michel Mothmora is set for an attempt to get right back in the thick of
things when he takes on Germany’s Baker Barakat for the vacant World
Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Middleweight title. The two
gritty veterans will clash on Friday March 27 in the main event of a
show promoted by Michel Chagnoux and Ring Giennois, at the Salle Du
Lievre in Chateauneuf-sur-Loire, France. After going 15-21 in his first
eleven years as a professional, Mothmora is 11-2 since, both defeats
against Achour, and at 34 years of age he currently has a misleading pro
record of 26-23 (9), and aiming to win his second WBF title in what will
be his fiftieth paid bout. In November 2013 he captured the WBF
International title with a split decision over undefeated Czech Stepan
Horvath, and six months later successfully defended his crown with a
ninth round knockout of Robizon Omsarashvili from Georgia. Now, on the
heals of the latest Achour defeat, he is set to face the even more
experienced Barakat (33), who brings a stellar record of 41-17-4 (28)
and has defeated the likes of former three-time world title-challenger
Khoren Gevor, and come up short against George Groves and Dimitri
Sartison. For both boxer it looks like a dance at the
last-chance-saloon, as defeat will likely send the loser a big step
towards genuine journeyman status, or even retirement. But, at the same
time, victory could also mean that a crack at world championship glory
is an equally big step closer.
Erick Bone Impreses in Friday Night
Fight Against Former Welterweight Champ Shawn Porter Despite Injured
Knee
March 16, 2015
New York (March 16, 2015)--Boxing is a funny business. Sometimes,
even when you lose, you win. So it was on Friday night, when 26-year-old
Ecuadorean junior welterweight Erick Bone showed the world that he is a
world-class talent and willing warrior. Bone, who lives in Queens,
NY, and is managed by Eli Mackay, was stopped in round five by former
world champion Shawn Porter on Spike TV in Ontario, California.. Viewers
saw Bone having some success against Porter. That success may have been
suprising as Bone took the fight on twenty-four hours notice. In
round two, Bone, who is signed to adviser Al Haymon, sprained his right
knee. He fought for three rounds on one knee. "I won't make any excuses.
But I want people to know I will be back, on TV, and I will be ready for
a summer fight," said Bone (16-2). Mackay said he is proud his
boxer stepped up a weight class on such short notice. "He fought on one
knee," Mackay marveled. "A doctor said it was good the fight ended
because Erick's knee could have been seriously hurt. But it's just a
sprain. Bottom line, Erick is a real talent and will make noise at
junior welterweight!" "As the fight progressed, Erick was starting
to figure out Porter. It would have been real interesting to see how it
would have played over the scheduled twelve rounds had he not injured
his knee."
GCP's Barroso Scores Impressive
KO! Night of Knockouts a
Huge Success for GCP and
Partners March 16, 2015
Promoter Greg Cohen is sending his congratulations out to
still-unbeaten southpaw Ismael "El Tigre" Barroso, and a host of others,
after his highly successful and totally sold-out quadrupleheader of
exciting ShoBox: The New Generation-televised knockouts on Friday night
at The Space at Westbury in Westbury, New York. Barroso (17-0-2, 16
KOs), of El Tigre, Venezuela, made his American television debut and
picked up the NABO and NABA Lightweight Championships with an impressive
TKO over gutty New Yorker Issouf Kinda (17-3, 7 KOs). After five rounds
of absorbing Barroso's power, including a fifth-round one-punch
knockdown, Kinda developed problems with his vision and the fight was
stopped just three seconds in to the sixth round. Barroso's eye-opening
victory, however, was not without a price, as he suffered nasty cuts
above his right eye and below his left eye from accidental headbutts.
"Barroso has power like (former middleweight champion) Julian Jackson.
He hits guys and they go," said a happy Cohen, post-fight. "People want
to see fighters like that. Steve Farhood from Showtime said Ismael is
'one of boxing's best-kept secrets.' The secret is now out. My guy is an
animal!" The brutal victory over Kinda will surely restore Barroso
to the lofty heights in the world ratings he once enjoyed. He was
formerly rated #5 in the world before visa problems stalled his career.
But back on track now and working with GCP, the sky seems to be the
limit for this South American with granite fists. "We want a
ranked fighter next," continued Cohen, "with the goal being a world
championship fight and an eventual all-Venezuela showdown with (WBC
Lightweight Champion) Jorge Linares." Cohen also wishes to congratulate
his partners, GH3 Promotions President Vito Mielnicki, whose fighters
Antoine Douglas, Jerry Odom and Adam Lopez who recorded impressive Knock
Outs in televised action.
